I have reformated a IFL90 and put on XP Home Edition. The Vista Ultimate expierence was a nightmare.

I have a some of questions concerning installing XP Home.

    1. I had to disable the ACHI in the bios in order for the XP installition utility to recognize the Seagate 160gig Sata Harddrive. I have XP installed now and my questions are, do I enable the ACHI option in the Compal IFL90?? And can install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager slash Sata-Achi driver? Or will things blow-up in the bios  ??.
2.Do I install the TPM1.2_Infineon driver? I really don't understand what it does. It is about 5:30AM and I am starting to lose my concentration. Good thing I quit drinking along time ago..

I have installed all of the drivers except for the TPM, and Finger print driver from the Compal website.

Thanks for the reply Ayle. Vista Ultimate crashed dead in the water on a regular basis. It is my Sister inlaws machine. The brief time I had it, Vista would hardlock on me every couple of hours. Any multitasking and down she went. (Not my sisterinlaw Oops) but the laptop. It had 2 gigs of ram with Centrino core duo. SO I think it had the horsepower. Oh well I got Xp installed with the ACHI disabled. I think ACHI enabled just enabled the NCQ function for the harddrive??

When I find a spare harddrive, I will clone the original with Acronis and try the method you posted.

    Thank You
