    1. The hinges have developed major cracks in just the last couple of months even though my use is very light, and now the top is very loose. I got the laptop last July so I'm hoping that any repair needed will be covered by the one-year warranty.

    2. I ordered the laptop with bluetooth but I was told at the time that the parts were backordered and that I could return it in the future for free installation. Any word on if that can be done now and what the process is?

    3. The laptop came with Sytem Suite 6 installed but not activated. I have other programs that I use for the same purposes, but every night at midnight I get a warning that System Suite 6's anti-virus program has detected a possible problem. Try as I might I can't figure out how to activate the software.

Any help with these issues will be much appreciated.

Edit: I just wanted to add that this is an awesome laptop and I've never regretted purchasing it, and P1 was a great company to deal with.

you are really better off contacting p1 directly as they don't check this site all that often. as for the hinge cracks, they are a well-documented flaw with a8jm notebooks, so its repair should be covered by your warranty.

I sent the laptop back to P1 in the original shipping box and all issues were resolved. Because it was just inside the 1-year warranty, all I had to pay was the shipping to get it there. They even paid to ship it back to me. In other words, the usual outstanding customer service that we've come to expect from Portable One. The only issue was how long I had to wait but seeing as they were waiting for a part from ASUS Canada this was completely beyond their control.

    1. The loose hinges and cracked case - shell replaced and hinges tightened. As good as or better than when I first received it in July of '06.

    2. Bluetooth - module and software installed and all works perfectly.

    3. System Suite software - it seems they just uninstalled the lot, which is fine with me as it was worthless from day one.

Many thanks to Ivan and all of the fine people at P1. If the ASUS eee is going to be avaiable from them before Christmas then I know where Santa will be shopping this year.

It would seem the hinges last exactly one year. Last month the hinges started loosening again, and even though I tried to be very careful with them they have caused the top shell surrounding the screen to crack again. So now I have looses hinges, the screw in the lower left corner holding the frame surrounding the screen popped through the plastic frame, and the frame is broken. The laptop itself is great and still runs perfectly, but these hinges are driving me crazy.

Yes you can send it in to have them all replaced, brackets, hinges, antennas and top cover are all part of the procedure.
