Just wondering, if s.o. with knowledge can please answer these questions:
1) is there any technical restriction, not to put a NVIDIA® 9650M GT 512MB GDDR3 into the NOX a14?
2) Why do they only offer 800Mhz RAMs instead of 1066Mhz? Which brand is behind the "Original Zepto RAMs"? Quality?
3) I only find negativ stuff about the intel turbo memory - is it true or would you pay for it?
4) 320GB 5400rpm: a good deal - or shall I chose the 200GB 7200rpm one?
5) the brand behind: Zepto Zpro N-Standard (NBG). Is the Intel Option better - why?
6) there will be a TV-card available for the NOX a14 - any clues when and which hardware?
I found some informations about the a15 - but do not know how comparabel the hardware is. Any ideas?
The reason for the questions: I plan to put OSX onto the Zepto (of course only to see if it works or not).

1) Uhm no... It fits... It is tested... and it will work...
2) DDR3 memory is EXPENSIVE as hell, that is the reason...
(and the Santa Rosa platform doesn't work with 800MHz speeds (only 667MHz so 1066MHz is way to much) And the brand... I don't know, but that could be different in every country (weird I know but it's true. Just like with the HDD's... The 500GB 5400RPM'ers are from Samsung... Zepto in The Netherlands prefer the HDD's from Hitachi's so they have other HDD's and so on) But the 'Original Zepto's RAMs' are too expensive in my humble opinion
3) The newest ITM 2.0 will give performanceboosts..
How much / how many percent and so on... Just Google
4) I don't know what you wanna do with it? Gaming? Photoshopping?
For gaming and Photoshopping and so on, a 7200RPM'er wil be very nice!
Just for playing a movie or music a 5400RPM'er is more than enough!
If I were you I should buy a 7200RPM'er
5) They (Zepto itself) say that the Zepto Zpro-N standard has lower speeds with the N-standard than the Intel Option... but I don't know if you have an N-router at home... The 533 Intel Option will give you a maximum speed of 450MBit/ sec instead of the 'normal' N-standard which is 'only' 300MBit/ sec
6) Haven't got a clue =)Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Thanks so far!
Hmm... newest ITM 2.0... any sources you can link, please? I only find forum notes, talking about ITM 1.0. how much faster is ITM 2.0?
All say: put you money into RAMs. -
Like CLB said, 1066 MHZ ram is still rather expensive in comparison to 800 MHZ.
Also, it's usually cheaper to buy extra RAM yourself so maybe you can order 1 2GB RAM stick with Zepto and buy yourself an extra 2 GB ram stick.
Just make sure they have the same latency.
Cheers. -
Frankly, the money you save by ordering 2GB s.w. else is under the shipping costs. I think Zepto knows that...
I plan to order the 4GB RAM Option.
But I prefere 320 GB 5400rpm HDDs over the 7200 rpm ones, as the former (I hope) save more energy and the density of the 320GB disks (it is a 1.8" one) is high enough. Also in combination with ITM 2.0 I hope to get a system for the next four years.
Please correct me!
I rather spend 100 more then to be unhappy with my laptop.
but nevertheless: any references for the ITM 2.0? I can only find tests for ITM 1.0 and these are bad. I would take the 4GB Option, hoping to save some battery... and: any info about the boot-time vista/ubuntu? I most times use the hibernate.
Can linux use the ITM 2.0? -
Here in The Netherlands it's cheaper to buy 1x 2GB RAM and buy 1x 2GB RAM somewhere else =)
I shouldn't be staring at those ITM modules if I were you...
You can buy it later and upgrade it yourself... If you want more batterylife --> extra battery!? -
Battery: I'm already leering to the 9 cell battery, but
that will make the NOX more bulky =(
A second battery is also annoying and have to be carried with. I have two batteries, and of course the second one is always empty if needed.
That's the reason I ask for a test of the ITM 2.0. I want to evaluate, if the extra 80 are worth the money. I quickly figured out, 8 GB RAMs are far to expensive, same for the SSD configuration. So my hope was the ITM 2.0 4GB will give a nice boot up boost and save battery! I was also considering a fast express card 32 GB ssd (for Vista) - but these are expensive, too.
I was not aware about the option to upgrade the ITM 2.0 by yourself! If that is possible, I would buy it separately (together with the 1 x 2GB - to save shipping costs)
My only fear is that the (hopefully coming soon) TV-card option will block the PCIe slot for the ITM modul.
Are there any tests on the NOX comparing w and w/o the ITM 2.0 modul? -
You have only one PCI Express Slot for one of this Options.
TV Tuner ore TM, booth is not possoble.
