Hey guys. The wait for the IFL90 WSXGA+ is just getting longer and longer. I'm not too sure I'll get it before August 17th, actually I need it by August 15th so I can set it up. The ASUS G1S was the laptop I looked at before this, and the HDMI, 5.1 Azalia, eSATA, spdif, and 500/1400 8600gt, convinced me to change my order.

Good luck to all you guys and ya Compal orders.

    The ASUS is calling.

By the way, I preordered June 21st and was hoping to receive it so I could test it out at Georgia Tech during my orientation the last week of July.

Yeah if I don't get an update next week, I'm cancelling and going over to Bestbuy and picking up a laptop. The rate at which these are being sent over by Compal are ridiculous.

I have contacted the sales customer service and with their suggestion, I have canceled my order for the IFL90 (WXGA+). I told them that I needed the laptop by August 17th and appealed for early August, but the screens haven't come in yet and she thought it would be best that I canceled.

I know others have been waiting much longer...I've waited for just 11 days and this is a huge delay since I needed this laptop shipped to me before I leave for college...because now that I've wasted 11 days waiting for something that wouldn't have came in time, I now have to research for ANOTHER laptop to replace the Compal IFL90, and order it; somehow hoping it ships to me before the deadline that has now become 11 days closer...those 11 idle days...sigh.

In any case, do you have any idea what reseller you're going to buy from...I think I'm getting the Asus too.

I also have to leave for college on the 22nd.

Ordering this laptop in June made me think I'd be spending the summer with it.

But it's turning out that I wont have a chance.

If WSXGA+ has another major delay who knows what I'll do. :p

I'm holding off till the beginning of August to see if it my WXGA+ will be anywhere in sight. If not, it will suck becasue if I ordered a Dell Vostro "now" it can be shipped by the 1st week of Aug...

Well, I have to say I canceled a few weeks ago. I wasn't willing to take the chance that they would come in before I had to leave, and I wanted at least a few weeks with my laptop before I left as well.

I ordered my ASUS G1S from xoticpc. Justin told me to email him my new laptop configuration so they could do a quick switch. They just need to charge my card the extra $400 or so. By the way, there is a back order on the Intel Robson, so I chose not to take that. Besides, 2 gb ram is plenty for Vista.

I'll prolly pick up an SD card to use for Ready boost. It does help with gaming; loading textures, etc.

I canceled mine last week and flipped a coin this morning to decide between the dell vostro and asus c90. It told me to go with the c90. Hopefully its a good laptop.

I still sit here confused on what to do. We're still at least 2 weeks out from the wsxga screens on the Compals. My problem is I struggle with what to go to. The G1S has that green trim that makes it inappropriate in business situations. The C90 is running hot and has a short battery life, the 1520 is still from Dell consumer. The Latitude 830 maybe, but it has a lot weaker graphics.

I just know that after waiting so long they'll get them in the day after I cancel. Its been my luck with things lately.

I've earned the right to by cynical, btw.

I'm pretty sure we've all earned that right. If the wsxga is 2 weeks out, I'm figuring that the wxga+ is 3-4 weeks out meaning why am I even waiting? Even though the 1520 and even the Vostro is more-so consumer-based, I still think it will be more satisfying to be able to play games than on any unoptimized Quadro video card.

Perhaps I should just order the Vostro, see which one gives me a shipping date first, and then cancel the loser order of the two.

I think that if the deliveries of the Compal IFL90 WSXGA+ are not started by August 1st, there will be a lot of folks canceling orders and going somewhere else.
I am wondering also, in the back of my mind, if quality control is going to be affected by this whole debacle. I know it is pure speculation but can you see it now? "I don't care if we can't test these machines, get 'em out the door NOW!" says the Compal CEO to the VP of Quality Control. Or will they even do like Dell supposedly did and use a different vendor for their screens (on the 1520) and now have some QC issues?

I know that if mine isn't in transit by August 1st I'm getting the Asus G1S. I'll turn the green lights off and be done with it.

This is the same mumbo-jumbo that got me to try compal in the first place. Last summer WSXGA+ Asus Z96J was my calling, but then it was delayed and delayed again and I went for my HEL80 instead...
Such a painful thing to wait when you are excited for a new toy..

I had a very informative chat with Donald today, and he said that supply of the IFL-90s were in part hindered because of some plastic piece that fits on the LCD didn't properly fit - not the LCD itself, and apparently some plastics factory in China dropped the ball. Compal is a huge notebook manufacturer, so the manager of the plant had to reschedule the manufacture of the IFL-90 to make room for other models. As soon as the plastic piece was shipped over to the Compal factory, the IFL-90 schedule had to be elbowed in to be made again. Apparently at the moment, the IFL-90 is in full production right now, and another shipment is expected (remember the shipping industry is very tentative) to come by next week.

Well, for me a laptop is not a toy. It is a tool. I'm not saying I'm not going to game on it but I'm primarily doing Ph.D. research on it. Whenever I get a new machine there's a significant amount of time I must spend installing everything I need and configuring it. This time it is worse because my current laptop is limping (internal HD dead, using external HD through USB for *everything*) and I've had to put off some of my projects because of that. I don't want to install everything I need for those project and then have to reinstall everything on a new laptop. I'd rather do that just once. So I'm delaying the projects.

Sweet some good news! Lets hope they send it by airplane and not by sailboat or something. :D

Also if I don't get concrete news or upbeat news next week about the WSXGA shipments, I'm seriously considering the Macbook Pro. Yeah they are pricey, but man they are sexy!

I must say I am glad I haven't ordered my IFL90 yet. I may wait and see what happens, and read some reviews before deciding which is ultimately the best: IFL90, G1S, C90, 1520, or the Vostro

Yeah I agree. Think of it this way. We were told the WSXGA+ laptops would be in before the WXGA+ laptops. There was supposed to be a two week gap between the two. Well now that we are almost at the end of July without the WSXGA+ laptops yet, I think the WXGA+ laptops will be lucky if they come in by the end of August. (Remember this is all my opinion :))

There were some issues with the lcd bezel creaking on the T61. People described it as having the plastic misaligned. It could be the same problem that compal stopped the lines for. They may share bezel suppliers.

When I said I levae the 22nd I meant of August. :p Thought I'd throw that out there.

I really like the Compal IFL90 from what I've heard.

Although the G1S will game better, BUT it looks like a Fisher Price toy, as I heard someone say before.

A dell wouldn't be too bad, but I'd much rather deal with the so far extraordinary help at Powernotebooks rather than some indian fellow for Dell.

The other ASUS models are ok, but no real Matte, or XP options.

Macbook Pro's make me drool but I couldn't imagine paying 2400$ for somethign where I can get something with what I think are better specs for 1700$

I'd adore a T61p.. But they aren't out yet, and plus they aren't much for gaming, which I do a moderate-high amount of when I'm bored.

Plus I think the IFL90 is awesome looking, sold by awesome service, and a practical choice.

So I think when it comes down to it, I'm just excited for my laptop and Compal knows how to keep the suspense.

Only way I'd get aggravated really is if it arrives and has like 4 ridiculously placed dead pixels and has awful build quality and performance.

But I would seriously doubt for that to happen. :p I mean all the suspense has to lead up to something good, eh? EH?

    :)

The reason you listed for the Macbook Pro is the only reason I chose the IFL90 over it. It is so over-priced. But the funny thing is Apple charges ridiculous prices for its laptops and they still sell like hotcakes. I do like the real sleek look of the Macbook and OSX Tiger is a very good OS. I would have totally gotten a G1s if it didn't look like so gawdy. So I chose the Compal.

Stupid bezel makers delaying our shipments.

I ordered on June 27th and I'm praying I get mine by August 13th. The wait so far is killing me, but I leave for vacation this Sunday and I'll be gone for 3 weeks so that will take my mind off of the long weight times for the Sager 2090. Hopefully when I get back, I'll have my Sager in my hands a day or two later.

Ok, so I am going to double post...shoot me if you like but here is our official announcement:

"We just received our first shipment of the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) screens, but we only got a very few. We now expect we will receive yet another shipment next week and hopefully all pre-orders will ship by the end of July or at the latest in early August."

Sager received their first few as well, and they also hope to maintain the same shipping schedule as ours.
