Hello again, so i think we've established that the newer drivers dont work. Looking back at the zepto ftp they've taken them down!
The reason im bothered about all this is that i want true 5.1 sound from the laptop with no up-mixing. I have the laptop connect via optical cable to my sound decoder/processor.
Decoder:

Now when i play games like Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike:Source, F.E.A.R etc. The decoder doesnt light up the LED for true 5.1 like Dolby Digital, DTS. It shows up as a 2 channel sound, which my decoder then up-mixes to 5.1
Looking at the sound manager thingy for realtek HD audio when i go to speaker configuration it only gives me the option for 2 channel sound.
I have the windows option set to 5.1 speakers.
Its really noticable on F.E.A.R, when something is happening behind you you actually hear it infront of you but with a higher frequency to simulate it behind you. I have everything setup in-game to give me 5.1 sound.
One other thing to note is that when playing a DVD movie from DVD i can set the DVD program to output Dolby Digital / DTS and my decoder will pick this up (lighting up the DD / DTS LED) and i will recieve the full 5.1 with sounds coming from everywhere.
I want 5.1 in my games!
Anyone else with this problem? or have a few suggestions?

I wonder if the games truly have 5.1. It's like the PS2, which is supposedly also capable of 5.1. I have the optical link that makes it possible--but my receiver only picks up Dolby Digital surround output. If I had known that I would have saved the $50 cable cost and connected via component cables.
The fact that your DVDs but not games are picked up with Dolby Digital makes me suspect this.
