    Hi.

I've had a problem with my HEL80 ever since I bought it... When I change resolution, close my display (so that the screen goes black) or just deactivating the screen in any way, everything from the sound output goes "brrbrrr" (stuttering) while the changes are made.
This is a really annoying problem for me, and I wonder if this is only a problem that I'm having...I have updated to the 107B bios and the latest display drivers with no luck (I'm going to downgrade both bios and display drivers because of other issues).

I haven't read anything like this on the forum earlier so I wondered if there is anyone else having this problem?

    Regards,
    Kjetil.

Have you done all the dual-core tweaks to Windows? Sounds like the video driver is getting a lock on the system somehow, and preventing sound processing. Be careful closing your notebook while it's running. That can cause heat damage to your LCD if you leave it that way too long, as well as preventing heat from adequately escaping, especially under any kind of load.

Thanks for the reply Pitabread :)....I have done all the core-duo fixes, everything according to that guide...I've never thought of the overheating thing, anyways, it's not often it happens, mostly for 5 minutes continuous (is there a heat problem even if the LCD-panel shuts down?)

It's not the LCD that creates the heat, it's the rest of your computer. 5 minutes, shouldn't be a problem. You just don't want the heat from the hard drive and the processor cooking your LCD, or the LCD holding the heat in and cooking the rest of the computer. A lot of heat is lost from the keyboard (heat rises), so you don't want the LCD blocking that. You might see if Realtek offers updated drivers for the sound card... other than that, you're stuck with what you have unfortunately. You can probably get around it by using an ExpressCard/PCMCIA/USB sound card, if you absolutely have to.

I think that's a solution I don't want to choose :)..The HD-realtek card should be superb, and an external solution is not portable enough for a portable computer (well, if I absolutely have to, it's a possibility yes)...
I wondered if I'm the only one experiencing this problem, so its a problem with my unit. If so, I might send it in...(I'm also pestered by that terrible sound output noise...)

I have the same problem, but it's only a very short stutter which is already before you realized it was there. So it isn't really a problem to me.

I don't know if this is relevant for my problem, but everything looks weird when changing:

Here's what you do. Open up the control panel for your REaltek HD Audio Manager. Go the tab labelled 'Audio I/O' and click the wrench icon near the word DIGITAL. Disable digital output. Unless you are using your headphone port for digital output. Worked for me.

Kjetil, it may be time to give your tech support a call. Hopefully they can help you troubleshoot otherwise they can start an RMA for you.

Does the screen look like that everytime you change resolution? And for how long? Have you changed your Nvidia drivers? Did you have the same problem with the stock ones?

I was toying with the idea of getting a USB powered fan and aiming it at the keyboard tray while gaming =P

    Lol!! That's a good one :p

I figured out that the problem in the screenshot I posted earlier was a driver problem. Changed back to stock, and works fine...nevertheless, I still have the stuttering. I also noticed extreme stuttering when I plugged a SD card into my card reader! Weird!

It may be worth a quick call to your tech support. They may or may not be able to troubleshoot the issue. That's not normal behavior.

I still suspect that you temporarily closed this thread after posting that so I couldn't comment on that fan :D
