I heard that they are not making the OCZ any more, is that true?
how long will we still be able to get it before stock runs out?

it is indeed true that OCZ will no longer be the importer for the Flextronics/Arima W840. however, Alienware will continue to sell the M17, as they have a direct contract with Flextronics. Also, all warranties etc will be honored by the respective resellers. rumor has it that another company will take up OCZ's spot in the supply chain as importer, this has yet to be confirmed.

here's the thread that started it all: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=352388

the Sager with the Core i7 (d90xf? something like that...) will be a beast, definitely. still, as i said, some other company might take OCZ's place and continue to supply the resellers.

there are still some ocz's floating around but you would have to check with all the resellers. ocz and flex are just simply not doing business in the whitebook market anymore. nothing more. the chassis is not going away as alienware will be supporting it for most of the year still from what im told

The specs leaked for the new D900f showed it had the same dimensions as the current D900c (aka: Sager np9262).

And the new ASUS W90 with the Crossfire 4870s will be friggen huge. It's even more massive than the Toshiba Qosmio G50 if you're looking for a reference you can go see at Best Buy.

Heh the aluminum finish would be the only thing I would have given it over a Whitebook using 4870s.

I think the W90 falls quite short of awesome. Without offering extreme CPUs, and DDR3 to go along with the built-in overclocking utility the 15,000 3DMarks actually sounds more like a finish line than a starting line.

hmm i thought they would offer extreme cpu's. a few people have reported xotic has said they will offer it as a configurable model but i cant be sure on that of course. if so sounds like a nice machine..

i agree the new i7 sager will be prob the fastest thing out when it arrives given no one else has one by then yet

The D900F will be a beast but it will be a big ugly beast. Personally if I was looking for desktop performance in a chassis that I'd dread lugging off my desk I'd go for a SFF desktop.

The main selling point of the Whitebook to me was it offered great performance in decent packaging. Who knows now though. If Im stuck going for something larger I'll probably check out the 18.4" Clevo with the SLI and HybridPower.

The original leaked specs didn't specify SLi and also left the M that designates the GPU as mobile off the end of the model numbers for the cards.

Has there been any other evidence leaked that supports it will be SLi or is it all still speculation and assumption?

no word on it being sli, but if they open up the g280, then it wouldn't need to be sli since that chip is faster than any sli mobile rig by it's self.240 sp's. (speculation on if they leave it the same as the desktop variant)

I think those marks are simply for the pre-configure production models, and merely for introductory marketing purposes. My understanding is that the W90 WILL be available with extreme CPU's..... custom configured by ASUS resellers, such as XoticPC. Justin indicates he thinks the W90 will be HOT!.... :D

Perhaps not perfect for 'extreme' overclockers, it will still be a bargain and AWESOME for gaming...... and perhaps the first to debut ATI's new HD 4870's :)

AW is confirmed they will have the the 4870. The question is, will they be the only ones to have it?
Also, will the 4870 from the new asus w90 work in the ocz whitebook?

    Probably not.

ASUS manufacturers their own rebrand of ATI cards so they can use whatever connection type they want.

In this case, Asus designed both 4870s as MXM-IVs. So it will fit in the master socket in the M17 and whitebook, but the fan would be blocking the HE tab in the daughter socket. And Asus' VBIOS usually aren't compatible with other systems. This is odd for Asus because there is nothing connected to the HE-tab, and the second reference design of the mobility 4870 from ATi/AMD was MXM-III (no HE tab), so theoretically, it would have been easier and less costly for Asus to just copy it.

but then probably ASUS cards can't be trade. who knows if they are even soldered to the MB. they want to sell notebooks, not cards. They earn a LOT more money selling a new notebook. an exclusive design it's just an excuse just like dell does. it was really easy to all notebook manufactures to adopt a standard MXM where we could trade the cards as easily as in desktops. I bet ocz whitebook 3780 and future 4870 won't work in the asus although it supports the heat the power consumption and the size.
side note, the whitebook can support a 8800M GTX

They, AW confirmed it. I call them and ask them about it and they said yes.
Usually they would say that they didn't known etc. But they said yes. It means they are pretty sure about it. I think it's a secure information.
If I buy it from them I'm sure I can upgrade it. If I can't upgrade it I'll ask for a refund. (I recorded the phone call just in case). I don't trust them.

I think it's not very smart to have subforuns for the exactly same notebook. subforuns shouldn't be for vendors, it should be for manufactures. we all known that M17 and OCZ whitebook are the exactly same notebook with minor changes (design and locked bios). why have 2 different subforuns? if there's one for AW we should also have for Xotic, K|N, etc etc.
