    Hi,

perhaps someone can help me with this.

I have just put CounterStrike Source on my 6214W and been playing it. I looked at the fps I was getting and it was pretty stable at around 28-30. Didn't think that this was too good and so I lowered the settings from the default (which were automatically pretty high) and tried again.

This time I got almost exactly the same, never more than 30fps.

This sent me scurrying to teh stress test and sure enough at default, and looking very pretty the average was 28.4, and with everything turned down as far as possible, looking very ugly, it was 29.60!

It seems that something is limiting my frames per second, but I have no idea what, I have looked through the nVidia drivers and can find nothing, nor in game.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Many thanks

    RB

Whatever you do, don't panic, because there is obviously something limiting your FPS, it can't be your computer. Usually the FPS limiter is in the game options or the nVidia settings in control panel.

And also don't make such a big deal about the FPS, because even though its nice to show off higher FPS, the human eye can only see about 24 per second, so it really doesnt matter as long as you have more than 25ish :D.

hehe, don't worry Joe I'm a long way from panic yet :)

You're rigth it does look pretty good at 30fps anyway, it's just one of those little niggly things that I can't find a reason for!

TBH at the moment I'm much more concerned about using an old IntelliMouse Optical instead of my Logitech G7 that I have on my dektop. The mouse just reponds soooo slowly I'm finding control very difficult! That's easily fixed with a new mouse though.

    Thanks for the help

A lcd display cannot offer 200 fps as it turns at 60 Hz (60 fps max).

yes it can, it only limits at 60 Hz if you have v-synce enabled. its not as if you cant change the refresh rate as well!

The number of frames per second that the graphics card draws is independent of the number of frames per second that the display can show, much over the screen refresh rate is unnecessary though.

My display options give me the option of 60 Hertz or 59 Hertz! I have chosen 60 as bigger is better I figure :)

I would like to get my figure up to 60fps though. Sadface, thanks for the reminder I'll see if that makes a difference.

An LCD can only show 60 fps as plantman said. What you're showing is the fps produced, not what is being shown on your screen. But its better to keep fps above refresh rate to keep it flowing nicely. :D

Edit: Just saw comment on Intellimouse optical. I got one and it works great :p

The refreshrate of your screen has nothing to do with your max fps. Shutting down your screen while gaming does not mean that your computer stops working...

That would be fine and all if what you were saying wasn't complete rubbish. Sorry, but this has been spewed out too many times and people actually start believing it. In tests conducted by the US airforce it has been proven that the human eye can detect changes in framerates WELL beyond 100FPS, never mind 24FPS.

The reason that movies running at 24FPS look fine is because they have natural motion blur, which games do not, and their framerates don't ever drop either. Its not that games can't be playable at a steady 30FPS but to suggest one can't notice changes at such low frames is simply incorrect.
