Forgive my naivety. I just got a 6130HS as a replacement for my Compaq Presario which exploded after a nasty tea spillage. Problem is, I would love to salvage my extensive music collection from the Compaq hard drive. There's no way I can fix the Compaq, it burned out good and proper.

So is it possible to swap that drive with the one in my new Averatec? I have no idea. And would it void the warranty? I got an extended 2 year warranty from PC Mall.

consider getting a usb enclosure for the old hard drive for less than $20. I got one for 12$ at Mwave.com. If you just want access to or the files off your old drive the usb case is easiest and wont void the warranty.
I removed my 4200 hard drive and replaced it with a 7200 hard drive easily. The manual tells you how too. I then put the slower drive in Tte USB enclosure.

So I guess if I got one of those I would effectively have a permanant external storage for my huge music collection?

By the way, you do know that when I said "music" I meant "bizarre porn", didn't you?

If that one is too long try this:

Hope that helps and Mwave is great.

You may want to look at the Seagate line of 2.5 HDs. They have a 100gigger @7200rpm that's been working fine in my machine for about 7 months now. There's a little extra heat, but nothing that concerns me. It was $200 at Best Buy. I'm sure you could find it cheaper on the web somewhere.
