Yep. Its the Asus S37s (also known as the Z37s in overseas markets).

It will likely be cheaper if you buy it as an installed barebone at an online retailer, but you may not get the excellent customer service that P1 is known for.

I'm happy to pay a tad more for customer service. I just wanted to know what it was based on. Thanks.

Just from looking at this machine today, it appears to be what I'm looking for. Anyone else planning to buy?

I'm waiting for it. I also found Fujitsu S6410 coming in July. Pretty cool machine. However, I need Santa Rosa 13.3" laptop by the end of June. SXS37 seems the best by that time.

You have any idea when it comes out exactly?

Based from personal experience, run - don't walk- to buy from P1 rather than a Fujitsu. 2 years ago, when P1 was still carrying Fujitsu and Fujitsu's quality control was beginning to decline, I made the mistake. Let's just say after 3 1/2 months Ivan facilitated a refund for me. It was the most unreliable machine I ever owned, let alone not being durable, etc. I endured multiple service calls from on-site techs, and half the machine was replaced and still didn't work (the s7020D). In contrast, the UX is solid as the day it was purchased. My daughter just finished her second year of law school, and uses the machine daily, in and out of a bag crammed with books all day.

Buy the SX. You'll be glad you did! BTW- it is a perfect combo. A modified Asus, which is a great machine made even better, and Portableone's INCOMPARABLE customer service, both before and after sales. Even 2 years later Ivan responds to a problem or inquiry immediately (for ex., for some reason my Systemworks was showing as being reused on another computer in VCom's site; it's only on the one computer, so don't know why. Anyway, one e-mail to Ivan, he imm. contacted the appropriate person at V-Com. He contacted me imm., gave him the serial number and it was fixed. No aggravation. No holding on line. No being told to do useless troubleshooting. What a pleasure!!

The website states delivery mid-month. Give them a ring and find out if they can meet your needs. IMHO, it is worth waiting for. I would never buy a laptop from another company. The few dollars in savings that you may save feels good now, but is not worth it the first time you have a problem.

Oh- and in case you haven't considered it, their screen upgrade is amazing! It is the best laptop screen I have ever seen/used. An expensive upgrade, but after getting it and seeing the difference, it was money well spent if you can swing it.

I ordered mine today. Despite this being only my second notebook, I will try to get some semblance of an acceptable review out after I receive the computer.

Like others say, I have found P1/Ivan to be very responsive & helpful through my pre-sale inquiries.

Does it have a glossy or matte screen?
How does the screen compare to the sony sz?

Is there anyone here that actually has the latest SXS37 model that could give a short review/comment?

I was also wondering if the standard screen is glossy/matte?

    Thanks.

I just spoke with someone at Portable One and was told the standard screen is glossy. The upgraded screen, uses the same standard screen, but adds additional reflective materials that are supposed to improve the performance outdoors and in bright light. Not having seen it in person it seems like a hard upgrade to justify for $400, but maybe seeing is believing.

I've got a couple of extra questions that I'm hoping someone with this computer or the Asus it is based on can answer for me?

    * Where is the fan located?
    * I assume this is not an LED-backlit screen?
    * What is the size of the Turbo Memory that comes with it (512MB-1GB)? Do people have good experience with Turbo Memory?
    * Any comments on the Express Card docking station that you can get as an accessory? I'm hoping to get some real world feedback on how well this works with 1 or 2 external displays.

    Thanks for any feedback.

    Dylan

I can answer two of your questions....

This does not have an LED backlit screen. The only Asus model with LED is the U1F (the U3s as well, but it isn't in production yet)
Most TurboMemory cards are 1GB, so I would assume that this one is too.

The fan locations should be easily found by looking at pictures of the sides and bottom of the notebook.

Thanks. I took a look at the Portable One website and it looks like the fan is on the side, although there are no pictures of the bottom to see if there is also a vent there.
