Just for having an idea. If PCSpecialist will find a supplier for the 180W adapter, will the old customer have a replacement or it is something for the new customers?

Second thing. Is the 1.04 Bios the latest one avaible from tongfang? Because on a chinese forum there is the 1.10 bios, but it's hard to understand if it is just a modded bios or an original one

Assuming we are able to source them, the 180W adpaters will be available for new customers and existing customers with the GTX 1060 model upon request (and within warranty).

With regards to the BIOS version, as we get customised versions made by Tongfang we may be a bit behind on releases. I will ask our R&D team next week. 1.04 is currently the latest release for PCS customers.

Regarding one of the previous comments about custom keycaps - is there any chance to set from the @XMG Neo 15 version? It looks so much nicer than the original ones!

Hi! New member here, I read all the thread and I wanted to thanks everyone, I was looking at this computer and I finally ordered it this afternoon, "Recoil II" at Pcspecialist (btw with no other choice than the 150W PSU!).

Until now I was with big and heavy 17" laptop almost used as a desktop but I wanted something easier to carry and able to do some casual gaming with good quality at 1080p 60Hz.
The only thing I was really concerned was the battery capacity for light work as Excel / web browsing / mail ... but I read here that thanks to some of the lastest update it can now do the job fine.
    I really hope I won't be disappointed!

Just to be 100% sure: it's a regular gtx 1060, not the Max-Q version right?

Edit: I also saw some complains about the clicky keyboard and I found that the V2 can be bought for 30€ at pcw.fr so at least I have this solution if the keyboard is too loud!

    It is the 1060 regular.
For the keyboard thing, i have modded two buttons to make them quieter (the same pcw.fr does), but i don't recommend it. The keyboard will become a "normal" keyboard without any feedback.

    Ok thanks for the answer.
I saw your video but I though the "V2" was a membrane keyboard, not just a mod!

@Jacob Hawkes I currently live in the UK and that's where I made my Recoil II order, however, I will be moving to Spain on the 17th of July. If we end up getting the 180w PSU, is it possible to ship it to a Spanish address?

The warranty is valid in all europe and you can change your address anytime. Remember you'll have to send the PSU back 100% so until they receive the old product they will ship the new one anywhere.

I am happy to hear you decided to purchase through us! We are looking into a 180W adapter, if we are able to source a supplier we will list them on the site and I will confirm in this thread. If this is the case, get in contact with our customer service team and we can send one to you.

I can confirm it is NOT the Max-Q version of the 1060 6GB, it is the full laptop version.

Also interested to know here which '230W slim adapter' you have ordered. (If it isn't the Razer Blade one).

Unfortunately this panel does not appear anywhere for sale just yet. But maybe in the future.

    Thanks for mentioning this information.

For those asking, please see below for BIOS 1.04/EC 1.25.09 change logs provided by TongFang.

    BIOS 1.04:
    1. Force CPU C-State at C7s temporary to avoid BSOD issue
    2. Optimize code about disable PCIe hotplug in raid mode.
    3. update EC to 1.25

    EC 1.25.09:
    1.Workaround for 61/6z 150w
2.add for Fn key change for F1~F12 hotkey
3.modified for can't charge when battery is full
    4.fix d-state at commerical

I have also confirmed with our R&D team and 1.04 is the latest BIOS direct from TongFang, no newer BIOS is available.

    Ah-ha! now this gets interesting:

That new 'v2' keyboard by PCW in France is available as a separate item. At the same 29 eur cost... Not just purely only a BTO option as previously thought. I'm not sure we all realized that. At least I didn't. Here is a link directly to that part only. No need to buy the entire laptop from them.

    http://www.pcw.fr/shop/non-retro-eclaire-1691.html

Add to cart --> lets see shipping, which is either (collect for free somewhere outside of Paris), or yet another 30 euros for "Colissimo International" postage...

Which is 59 eur, or 52 GBP. So all we need now is some brave soul to actually buy it, and tell us if it's actually any good ;)

Hi there. I have been looking for a laptop for university (engineering physics). This laptop seemed like a good option because it has a powerful CPU (I want something that would last for some years) while keeping a relatively small size and weight, seems to have a good overall quality and is affordable (870€ w\ RAM and SSD). But I won't be gaming, so the 1050ti would be mostly unused.
Do you think there are better choices then, maybe something with a MX150 or integrated graphics, or even a "U" series CPU in this price range? Or is there use for the superior power of the 8750h even if I won't be gaming? Would it really make a difference in the future, or would it be better to trade it for the benefits of a lower power system?
I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this questions?

There is a massive difference between the h and the u series, however the u series is a 15w CPU while the h series is 45w. I don't know how much processing power you need but if the u series is enough you can pick up the Xiaomi Notebook Pro for around 650 euro on Gearbest when they do a deal, and they do it all the time. That notebook has the u series with mx150 gpu. Screen is glossy but really nice and the laptop is very similar looking to the Apple MacBook pro. My gf got that and loving it. Battery life is around 8h doing light work.

    Hello!

I just received my Recoil II and I've been tweaking some options after reading the thread.
However I don't know what OTP means or where I can change it.

    Somebody give me some hint?

OTP is over temperature protection and you can find it in the BIOS settings if your BIOS is capable. The PC Specialist BIOS doesn't have this feature. Only the Mechrevo BIOS afaik. I don't know a whole lot about it as I only saw the feature but never really messed with it.

I am a proud owner of Recoil II by PCS. I am still in a trial period (14 days) and I have some problems (some stay and others solved). The main problem is with audio drivers because the SoundBlaster cinema 3 not work, in fact, this software is not able to install (It do a "empty installation")

When I search the folder, it exist but empty.

PCS say "it's driver problem, try to reinstall OS". I did it (actually 3 times, one clean and other two formattiing) and nothing. I had to download the latest drivers Intel_AC9560pro because my firts drivers didn't recognize the wireless adaptor (idk why).

Ah!, I forgot mention that in the first installation all drivers worked propperly and the software SBcinema 3 run but not recognized the audio adaptator (smoke grenade and dissapear). After of this, I did all steps mentioned before.

    Any idea? Thanks for all

PS: First of all I'm trying all works fine and then I'll flash BIOS to 1.04 version and underclock. I have the same shadows in the corner of my IPS panel but are small and only two, I think not (so) bad.

And finally, my apologize for my english, I understand more or less but to write (to express) it's a nightmare to me.

Now that you mention this, I also have this problem but it's been eluding me since I got my laptop as I had bigger problems to fix and interestingly enough, SB doesn't show up in the device manager as an "unknown device", it's as if the hardware wasn't even present in the computer. I have every driver installed, no unknown drivers left, yet when I start hte SB Home Cinema 3 app, it says that the device is disabled or not present. Does anyone have more input on this?

Also, it didn't recognise the wireless adaptor for me either along with some other drivers such as a the intel graphics driver and the touchpad. It just means that the windows installation doesn't have the driver included.

And don't worry about your English mate, we understand you just fine, think a lot of us here isn't native English haha (me included)

Yes, this is what PCS included in their email to flash the BIOS:

Please remove all external hard drives from the system before proceeding. Then, to flash the BIOS, please follow the steps below:

    1. Power on and tap the F7 key repeatedly as soon as you turn on the system. This will bring up the boot menu.

    2. Select USB flash drive from the boot menu and press [Enter] to select this option.

    3. This will open the EFI Shell. At the top of the screen, your drives are listed under ‘fs#’, where # is the drive number. Please find the drive number associated with your ‘Removable Drive’, it will be described as a USB Device and should be the bottom most option on the list.

    4. Type the following commands, pressing [Enter] after each and substituting the ‘#’ with the relevant drive number.

    FS#:

    CD PCS

    ECFLASH.NSH

the laptop will shutdown and update the EC.

    5. Power the system back on and tap the F7 key repeatedly while laptop boots to re-enter the boot menu.

    6. Select USB flash drive from the boot menu and press [Enter] to select this option. Type the following commands.

    FS#:

    CD PCS

    FLASHME.NSH

the laptop will shutdown and update the BIOS.

    ***NOTE***

After the flash, if the unit locks up, do not worry. Just wait for a minute and restart the system through the power button

    ***NOTE***

    9. Power the system back on. It will display a message that ‘First Boot Conditions have been found’ and ‘CMOS Defaults have been loaded’. Press the Enter key and the laptop will restart

    10. Tap the F7 key to get back into the Boot Options.

    11. Navigate to the Exit tab and select the option to ‘Save Changes and Reset’

    12. As the system powers back on tap the F7 key repeatedly while laptop boots to re-enter the boot menu.

    13. Select USB flash drive from the boot menu and press [Enter] to select this option. Type the following commands.

    FS#:

    CD PCS

    EOL.NSH

the laptop will shutdown and finalise the BIOS update.

Congratulations, the BIOS has been successfully flashed. The initial startup process can be a little slow, please stick with it and do not power off the machine.

Honestly I recommend that you do not install 'SoundBlaster cinema 3' software. It should not be needed, not required to get the built in audio device working. You should just check the audio device is working properly in Device Manager instead. If not, then install the missing windows audio device drivers if that didn't happen automatically. Pheonix here seems to have already shared a dropbox folder with those 'not automatic' ones. Including the wifi etc.

I did not include the SB drivers because after installing what I shared in that google drive folder I had no unknown devices left. However, like I mentioned before, with or without installing the SB Cinema 3 software, the device just won't show up in the device manager. Strange.

It seems that the vast majority of resellers do not go into any specifics about the audio chipset inside these machines. However after a bit more searching, have found this german one who is saying it's a realtek chipset:

    https://bto.eu/product/xbook-15cl872/

So not creative chip then... hence no need for the superfluous creative software, etc.

Well it's not that I'm bothered much to have a SB card, but if they advertise it with a SB Card (I even had the sticker on my laptop), then it should have it otherwise it's false advertising. Don't get me wrong, the laptop is still a bang for your bucks, but you get what I mean.

All i'm trying to say is: try looking in device manager for something called 'realtek', instead of 'creative'... might find it's there / recognized. Then everything's working (at least, from a device driver standpoint). Just to have that peace of mind it's setup correctly.

Whether you think it should be a creative chip (or otherwise advertised differently)... that is another matter.

Other than "HD Audio Device" I don't have anything else, which is probably the realtek chip then.

It was strange to me that there was no Realtek configuration options. In another forum, I found that Realtek Audio Consol is the place for the settings. ( https://preview.ibb.co/mgQq2T/realtech.png)
(I installed offical realtek site HD audio installer, but no configuration options.)
SoundBlaster works perfectly for Mechrevo drivers for me. (zip link: wetranslink ) ( https://preview.ibb.co/mTXg98/cb.png) /Install AB app (largenumber packeg), UWP services, And EQ/

I have installed the new 1.25.09 EC and the 1.04 Bios from PCS to test it out and i discovered some new (and i hope useful) things.
    • You can flash the 1.25.09 EC on the 1.10 Mechrevo Bios without any trouble and continue to use the 1.10 bios.
    • You can downgrade the bios without any issue. I went from 1.10 mechrevo to 1.04 from PCS.
    • The 1.04 PCS Bios doesn't have any OTP option
    • If you upgraded to 1.25.09 EC DON'T INSTALL 1.10 MECHREVO BIOS USING THE BATCH FILE!!!!!! There is a REALLY HIGH CHANCE YOU BRICK YOUR LAPTOP. The batch file install the new bios and 1.23.09 EC.
I read somewhere on baidu that the 1.10 bios is just the 1.04 modded, but i'm not so sure, i just used google translate.

    PERONAL THOUGHTs:
If you are on <=1.23.09 EC upgrade to Mechrevo Bios and then upgrade the EC
If you flashed the Mechrevo Bios just update the EC and stay on Mechrevo Bios.

The first benchmark are worse than 1.10 from mechrevo, but i have to check it up better.

Great stuff mate, very helpful, thanks for posting your results. Are these results with ThrottleStop modified settings? (undervolt, etc)

So I've had my laptop for about 2-3 weeks now and while I've ironed out basically all my issues, I noticed something today that is now bugging me because I don't remember if it was here before or not.
I have the 144hz screen and I've just now noticed there is a thin black border around the screen. They persist even when its turned off - I can still see the color difference. It's more of a cosmetic slight really, and seems like these should be covered by the bezel, but I just wanted to confirm if anyone else had this as well? To see if its the actual border of the panel itself or if I have some other issue that just popped it. It just seems strange that I wouldn't have noticed it up until this point.

Edit: I've already stopped noticing it so it probably has been here the entire time.

I'm running on XMG bios now; it's EC v.1.29.09 and Bios v.1.03. Nice XMG boot logo.
I also installed Premas latest ME firmare 12.0.3.1091

Got 1211 in CB. The best from Mechrevo bios 1.10 was 1216

Thanks for posting your results lads, it's always good to have something to compare too. I use the Mechrevo 1.10, think EC version is the same as yours. I'm getting around 1210-1220 with ThrottleStop settings finetuned.

Mechrevo uses 1.23.09 EC. So the XMG is the most updated

Nice! I can't wait to test it when PCS will send back my laptop after RMA

Thanks for clarifying! I wonder if there's any significant difference between the EC versions. I like to keep my stuff updated but everything works and I'm getting good Cinebench scores so I might just leave it until there is a bigger step forward.

NO. You can easily turn your laptop into brick i guess.

    My methode:
Use EFI shell (boot from Pandrive):
Update the BIOS and then the EC.

    Code:
    First: AfuEfix64.efi ROMNAME /p /b /r /x /l /reboot
    Second: AfuEfix64.efi ROMNAME /p /b /r /x /l /capsule
    (If I remember correctly)

Be careful! Easy to brick from your laptop!

Download BIOS file from PCS, put the two folders on the USB storage and follow the instructions

Could anyone run Battlefield 1 / Battlefield 4 and show what kind of performance you're getting considering the CPU throttling under combined load?

Interested what will happen with FPS when you lower GFX settings so the 1060 doesn't choke the perf and instead it becomes CPU bound.

    Thanks!
