I will be carrying it every day from my house to my car. Then from my car to my desk at my office. I do this now with my 17" Sager/Clevo (about 6.5 lbs). I bought an extra power brick so I don't need to carry that with me. But I still am toting it around a bit.

I am likely to stick with the MSI due to the excellent support from HID and the build quality. But this machine is such a good deal.

Holy ****. Walmart made up my damn mind for me by dropping the price again. Now $799 for that 15+.

    Sold.

Alienware M15 going back. $1,000+ savings is too tough to ignore for this finance guy.

It's literally stupid not to do it!

I bought an Alienware M15, that I really kind of love despite some heat issues. But $1,000+ savings is too hard to ignore - especially when the screen on this one is slightly better.

Even if Walmart is getting out of the shortest lived brand name in all of history, it should still last for a few years.

Same. I was soooo close to buying the MSI G65. The Stealth is such a beautiful laptop, in my opinion, but I cannot compare $1,899 + tax for a 1070 and 256GB to $800 + tax for a 1060 and 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD.The graphics card and form factor cannot justify the much higher cost.

I just hope this laptop doesn't suck. I bought a G5 on Black Friday but returned it since I hated the screen, the clunkiness, and the red accents.

Yeah I had to jump on this. I was going to wait on my refund for my MSI GP63, but I saw the 1050 was sold out so I don't want to miss this. I also was tempted to get the 17" for 1k because it already has the 32 gb of ram. But I wanted the more portable choice and 800 is just too good to pass up. I'm debating on selling the single gold key 16 gb ram to the many folks ordering this or maybe try to find someone else selling theirs or other compatible 16 gb stick.

What are folks here thinking about doing with the ram?

You guys crack me up lol. As if this wasn’t a steal at $999 already!

    Nothing touches this at $999.

It tick all the right boxes more than most even know.

-One of the best thin and light 144hz ips panels
-It can cool the 8750 unlike most this thin.
    -Plenty of storage options.
    -Battery upgrade capability
-An amazing community that if for some reason OP decides to stop with their BIOS, EC and Software updates we can use ALL other vendors for this chassis.

    List goes on and on.

Thank you for the quick reply.

As for the people on the fence for this laptop, $799 is a insane price for the what you're getting for this laptop. However, it's really up to you to do your research and see if you're willing to deal with the flaws of this laptop - mainly the short battery life and no thunderbolt, and maybe perhaps the keyboard.

There is so much arguing and incorrect information on the Slickdeals thread.

If you need a TB3 port, that rules this system out. However, it does have a usb c for data transfer in addition it has 3 video outs which is unheard of - 2 mini display ports and 1 hdmi 2.0. The value of this thing is insane at 799 plus you can get 2% cash back from topcashback today.

It was probably already in this thread but what RAM actually goes with this thing? I have a gift card from Newegg so would love if it's something from there. I guess I only need to buy one stick? I'd rather not deal with the hassle of buying a dual kit and then attempting to sell the stock stick. #laptopnewb

Due to the number of new low post accounts with poor English bashing this system on slickdeals, I have to wonder if they are not affiliated with other sellers or laptop makers. This sort of thing is not that uncommon. I have an old account on slickdeals with a good rep and thousands of posts and I get requests from people to upvote and comment product threads sometimes.

I know but price isn’t the only thing. Support, style, worrying if the company goes out of business, awful keyboard, power port breaking...

But yeah in the end it’s too good to pass on.

So can anyone recommend the 15 over the 17? Seems like someone is getting better heating on his tracer iii which is the same chassis on the 17. I will be ripping out the hard drives for a bigger battery. Benefit of the 17 only is bigger screen and ram is done already.
    It will be for school

Yeah so much misinformation/thread-crapping in the new thread that I requested the old thread to be revived. A mod there said that the old thread was irrelevant due to old price and new thread is valid due to new price. Lame. I won’t even bother posting anymore, I’m done replying to the trolls and paid shills from opposing companies.

I'd like to get some pro tip on this too, as I will be using this laptop mainly for photo editing, is the $200 difference between the 15+ ($799) and 17+ ($999) justified going with the 17+?
    1. LCD, do we know if the 17+ screen is of the same manufacturer and of comparable quality?
    2. COOLING, would the 17+ offer better cooling due to bigger chassis? (15+ seems to have pretty cool cooling already, no pun intended!) But of course better cooling means less noisy fan right, so if under same load, the 17+ runs quieter than the 15+, this is a plus fo sho.
    3. BIOS and EC, can 17+ use 15+ BIOS and EC? if not, are there other 17 inch bios and ec out there?

    TIA

I know "all plastic" built has been mentioned on the 17+, but there are two youtube reviews of the 17 inch chassis by different vendors which show alum lid cover

if i have to guess, i would say the lid cover of the 17+ is alum like the 15+, but the keyboard cover and the bottom vent grills are plastic unlike the 15+

I started from the top on their new thread and after a few pages it was clearly a lost cause.

At least my thread I was able to control the information a bit to help guide its sails till some common sense kept it afloat.

I know our good chap OwnorDisown called it all plastic, but I believe the lid cover is brushed aluminum.

I'm getting mine Wednesday (Force willing), so can't wait to play and tinker with it. That price tag of $999 for the price tag was irresistible. Maybe if the keyboard is good enough, i won't need to lug my 71-key wireless mechanical keyboards in my bag :)

if my high school physics served me right, i think metal helps dissipate heat better, so that alum keyboard cover on the 15+ is in a way "a giant heat sink" when compared to the 17+ plastic keyboard cover, but then again, 17 chassis should hvae bigger heat sinks, so... i donno...

i know it's a win/win, but someone please make an educated decision for me, the 15+ or the 17+!

Thinking of getting this from walmart for christmas. How is the keyboard? Currently I use a g910 with gomer-g tactile switches. Would those be similar in feel to the laptop? (Obviously not in travel distance, but actuation force/ tactileness)

You have 15 days return policy, so i'd say try 17" first :)
They're actually smaller than normal 17" due to thin bezels.

is $200 worth 2in in screen size (and increased overall size of laptop), 16gb ram (do you need that much really?), another 1tb of HDD space (again, do you need that much really?) maybe better cooling? potentially an all plastic case?

this is why i pulled the trigger on the 15+.

    but, i am still debating..

Well based on recent videos the 15 inch was having issues running without 32gb (lower CPU wattage output) so you may want to keep it. Won't neccasarily happen on the 17 but I don't see why it wouldn't.

When the 15+ was $899 when I launched the PSA video I'd say confidently that the 17" at $999 is legendary.

    IR camera for Windows Hello
    Dual Channel 2 x 16 RAM
    2tb platter vs 1tb

The first two upgrades were worth $100. Not because it's 32gb, but because it's in dual channel. Most of you whether you realize it or not, will end up desiring a dual channel kit in your 15+. Especially when you realize how awesome 144hz is and you're unable to get the performance you want, then come back here for answers only to be told "add a stick of RAM" then you ask "what kind, can I have a link?" and the story goes on and on. That alone makes it worth it....

But, at $799, the 15+ in my opinion is the KING again.

Me personally the bigger size was a turn off with the 17 because my laptop bags are sized for 15" laptops. I'm planning to tote this around a bunch. That said I absolutely think the $200 is worth it with the 17". You don't see the 17" laptops on sale as much. They are also a good bit more and don't forget the main benefit is you have the dual channel memory out the gate.

Thin bezel 17" chassis are almost identical to traditional 15.6" gaming notebooks in overall footprint. Pretty awesome!

Someone earlier asked how much they could get for their 16 gb stick. I can't find the post to quote. I'd say at least $60 and probably more like $80. I'm going to keep an eye out for a goldkey matching 16 gb stick but I might try and sell mine and get a dual 8 gb to try and break even.

Awesome, you guys convinced me to pull the trigger on the $799 price point especially since I have an extended return period also to evaluate this.

I had a M15 Order placed(yet to ship) which I got in for like $1200 (minus cashback/ some promo gift card/ employee discount) for the 144hz, 16gb, 1070 MaxQ , 256Gb but now I am considering whether to cancel that. I wonder how the screen of that compares to the OP panel.

What do you mean by M15? Is that the Razor 15, Mech 15, or something else?

Sorry for not being clear. Was referring to the Alienware M15 which is their new thin and light model.
