It's the 3M DI-NOC Carbon Fiber vinyl. No real tips to putting it on, there are some vids on youtube. The only thing I would say is you need to have a new very sharp exacto knife.

My 15+ laptop has distortion when listening to music. Is this normal? Does the 17+ have this issue too? I might return mine and get a 17 inch instead.

Distortion? No .. but the lows, mids, and high all sound like crap yes. Proper speakers (or lack there of) are probably one of the worst features on this. I don't think the 17" does much to improve sound.

I often wonder why they waste valuable space with internal speakers in the first place. Those are the very things that frequently end up making the battery capacity smaller.

Its almost as-if everybody is acting like bluetooth speakers don't exist. Let alone the many superfluous sizes, prices and varieties. It boggles the mind.

    Hi Folks,

Can you please tell me what screwdriver bit was required to tighten up the trackpad. I have the noise from the trackpad when you click where it sounds like it is slightly loose or needs a gasket to tighten it up from moving around.

Can you confirm if this is the same issue people experience and were able to resolve it by tighten up the three screws?

    Please see picture from BOB

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,
    Faiz23

So just got an early Christmas gift... was eventually going to get a 2x8gb kit for my OP15 but kept putting it off figuring RAM prices would drop.

Well today we used this box to take some Christmas presents to my family member's house and I have no idea why, but a 1x8gb DDR 2400T SO-DIMM module was inside of it. I did have other random PC parts in there at one point but I could swear I sold all the RAM out of it... but I guess not!

I popped it in and CPU-Z is showing I'm at 2400mhz dual channel with the timing of the slower stick (which is basically a tradeoff since the included 8gb stick is CL19). So no need to order any memory at all! Yay.

Is there a video that shows how to take the 7200 rpm hard drive out? I want to put my 1tb 2.5" SSD. It has some wire tape stuck around it and I don't want to break anything.

    Hey All,

I've gotten the OP 15+ and have been playing with it for a few days. It's been running quite well and have been genuinely satisfied - you all have helped me with a lot of things. I've been lurking.

I do however need help regarding updating EC. I've went to the OP support website and downloaded the driver and used the File Batch File under BIOS, ran it, however it seems that it has only updated the BIOS but not the EC. I've looked at the F. Bat file and it states it should update the BIOS and EC, but I believe I must be missing a particular step. What exactly am I supposed to do? Should I run the same file again, and will it update the EC this time? Don't want to brick my laptop, so I need some clarity on updating the EC part. I've seen a few other posts but it seems that others had the option to separate EC and BIOS as separate entities, however it seems that if you use the OP given driver download, it doesn't allow you to do so.

Please let me know if you've done this! Help would be greatly appreciated :]

It's posted a few pages back on how to update EC as well as BIOS in Windows since Walmart forgot to include the command to update EC in Windows. In EFI you can follow @lKinder_Bueno video also posted a few pages back

(except missing out on the better EC firmware, which will happen if you don't do that)

I did a fresh install. I manually installed the nVidia drivers before applying windows updates to upgrade to 1803. The Intel integrated drivers wont install without that upgrade, which means it uses the generic Microsoft VGA adapter for the integrated graphics, which is why the refresh reverts to a generic 60hz. If you install all the windows updates (including 1803 upgrade) you should be good to go.

I fixed this issue by running the battery ALL the way down, even after it shut down I left it be for a few hours, then charged it all the way back up and now I'm at 100% charged. Just a heads up for anyone that sees their battery not stating it is fully charged when plugged in and "not charging" when hovering over the battery icon. :D

    Merry Christmas everyone, Happy Holidays!!

So getting weird high temps after removing the stock thermal paste (which was extremely heavily applied). I got strange high temps after my first application, which might have been too little. Removing the heat sink after my first application showed the whole cpu clearly covered though. So I removed that and applied a bit more than BoB had in his i5-8300H video. I did not do the dot method but the line method. However the temps across the cores are off on each still.

On stock thermal paste it never went over 82C, now its hitting 90C (hit 91C while typing this). Using Artic MX-4. About to go buy some Artic Silver 5 or thermal grizzly.

Fans were running in turbo mode. Also the CPU is undervolted -.125.

Think I will try a third application and use the spreader this time to cover the whole cpu.

Was running Aida64 to stress it. With stock thermal paste it never went above 82C.

Just did a 3rd repaste and used the spreader included with the MX-4. Running another stress for 15 minutes.

After 10 minutes its the same as before (although core 2 is now the highest instead of core 4). Temps ranging from 81-90C still. Going to have to try a different paste tomorrow and compare the results.

After 17 minutes it hit 91C.

I had the exact same issue on my first repaste. I ended up going with an X pattern on the GPU and a line pattern on the CPU using Grizzly Kryonaut. All is good now.

That's what I did with my 2nd repaste, didn't help. Must be the MX-4. I'll order some grizzly and try that.
    The GPU temps are 70-77C.

Well I installed all my drivers, and then I put my 1 tb ssd in the 2.5 slot. I noticed it did not show up in the my pc. I then did a restart and f2 to bios. Hit f3 to load defaults, f4 to save. Then my computer would not get passed the blue screen that said pc cannot start. No matter how many times I restarted. It said I could do a factory reset so that's what I am doing now. It won't reset to op default because I already deleted that partition. I hope this works!

Is anyone else’s mic when using the headphones port distorted? Seems like it’s picking up the mic from the laptop instead of the mic itself from the headphones? Not sure if there’s a setting I have to change.

Hmm, i'm getting temps about the same up to 90C while gaming using MX-4 too; even with a -150mv undervolt to the cache and core. I'm debating on trying out a different paste, but man that thermal grizzly stuff is quit pricey. Not sure though, because i was always under the impression that the delta between different thermal pastes is only like 1~2C. Wondering if it's worth trying out?

Aaaand the Overpowered 15s are out of stock. Sure glad I got one. Deal of the year. Kinda feels like Walmart hit the abort button on the OP brand. Hope not cause I'd love to see these deals again in the future.

I think that is why we saw these prices.... Since none of the other OP systems have been re-stocked my guess is Walmart is either doing a re-brand or dropping the brand all together. You could probably use this laptop for a year and sell if for nearly the same price.

A couple other options recommended over here which run cheaper than Kryonaut per gram are Gelic GC Extreme and Phobya NanoGrease Extreme. I haven't tried them personally.

I had not used Kryonaut until Monday when I attempted repasting a friend's laptop that was running real hot (7700HQ + GTX 1070). I had some trouble getting an even spread with the applicator, so I did the line method on the smaller rectangular CPU die and it seems to work fine. Managed to spread it satisfactorily on the GPU. Temps are way down.

The keycaps are easily removed by prying up on them with your fingernail from the bottom/top of the key. I tried putting a layer of duct tape on the underside of the keycap to soften the landing a bit (it was hurting my thumb), but if anything that makes the key registration issue worse.

What you need is probably beyond the scope of this thread. Follow a tutorial for migrating your boot drive. This is basic stuff, but can tend to be confusing until you actually do it for the first time.

Dealt with this exact issue. Headset mic was not recognized in Windows at all, and was only using the onboard laptop mic instead of my headset, which tends to pick up the keyboard very strongly! Then I realized the Tongfang does not have a combo headphone/mic jack, but they are split. So you can either get microphone or headphones, but not both! So I ordered this product and it resolved the issue. For reference I am using the Sony Playstation Gold Headset.

Since this has a crippled USB C port (Gen1, no DP support or 20V PD), what are you guys using as far as docking stations go? Dell's WD15 was such a perfect one (tiny and had all the ports you would need), but it does not work with this. Most, if not all, the USB based ones rely on the DisplayLink driver and Linux support for that is lacking at best so it's a no go for me. Any other suggestions? I guess since the USB C does not support video, best is to use the laptop built in ports for video, and get a hub for everything else. Of course, now "docking" it anywhere is a huge pain.

EDIT: Just to clarify for everyone, the USB C port on this is basically a glorified USB 3.0 port, same exact specs, just a different interface.

You have three 4k video out options on this thing - pretty amazing for a laptop in this price category.

Well I've got some great news. After removing my spacebar I noticed there are to bent bars that snap into two slots. Mine might have not been all the way snapped in the slots because when I took it off and reapplied it I'm getting much better results. I still get some non registered presses but it is way less frequent. I noticed when I took the bar off and just used the button I didn't get any skips. So it's definitely the cheap bar, but still is working better now. Down the line I might try and think of a better way to permanently fix it.

After reinstalling windows I have been able to get past the boot menu as well. I'm a bit nervous now when I get my dual channel ram and I reset defaults in the bios if it does it again. I'm also not sure what format to select when I selected one for my 1 tb hard drive, but I chose one of the two choices.
