at the time of writing that, 20% would be okay for a few minutes, then would flicker really bad. I noticed if I had the fans on max I could keep the 20% longer, so seems the heat might have something to do with it, or just having the extra components pulling power at the same time? I don't know, seems really weird for whats going on.

I'm currently with 10% brightness no problems, able to watch youtube and do other activities, but its very hard to see anything.

Still trying your method, and trying it with being plugged in / battery. I'll update if I'm able to get past 10-20%, but right now its not looking possible.

Yeah I had the same problem with it. I think the fastest way is just to contact the support and send in for warranty. They replaced my motherboard and everything is fine for me now.

Well today the problem with the flickering screen is gone, completely. I've been able to have brightness at 100% and played Destiny 2 for 4 hours now with no problems at all. I have rebooted a few times and the screen flicker is even gone while on battery power. I put in a warranty ticket with OP yesterday and now that the problem isn't here, I don't know how they could reproduce the issue to even diagnose it. If I have any more issues I'll report back here, but so far everything is back to normal today.

Hey Guys. I am thinking of getting a gaming monitor for this laptop. Will it give me high refresh rate or would be the output be stuck at 60hz?

I just started getting the flickering a couple days ago. This is so weird, it seems like this problem is just starting to appear on a lot of laptops. Nothing is working so far, but I haven't had enough time to try playing/upping the screen yet.

I'm glad I checked here though, because I didn't realize I could get a stable image at 0/10%.

You can get high refresh rate if the monitor supports it and you're using the right cable.

Hey the flickering display issue returns! Maybe someone here can answer this. Is there someone who regularly plays graphics-heavy games with their laptop and hasn't had this issue? I'm wondering if it is a bad batch or all laptops of this model have this issue.

That's interesting. I have the 2070 max-q version. I wonder if the 2070 just runs too hot for the chassis?

For people who have the flickering display problem, what gpu do you have?

Just got off the phone with Eluktronics. They've seen the flickering display issue in all their Mech-15 G2 computers with the i7-8750H cpu and chipset. Apparently replacing it with the i7-9750H motherboard solves the issue.

Maybe it was a heat issue that burnt out the chip, or maybe it wasn't. I'm just looking forward to the free cpu upgrade and hopefully an end to this frustrating saga. I really like this computer otherwise! Haha.

i have the GK5CN6Z and after a year and a half the temperatures are insufferable, playing the cpu and gpu are at maximum temperature at the top and above the gpu lowering the frequency to 800Mhz making it impossible to play, I have changed the thermal paste several times and nothing (mx-4) and I do not know what to do ... also the heatsink screws are being passed, where can I buy some in Europe?

Try to remove a film between coolers and place where is exhaust begins, i bet there is jamming dust and hairs, so air cant go through, but you need to glue back them, or will be foreign noise and wrong air stream because they must be isolated, mine is broked, i just do like it was with insulating tape. You can buy screws on aliexpress, thats m2x3 if im not wrong, better to buy a set with all variations. Or somewhere on amazon.

Hi guys, it's been a while.
I have the GK5CN6Z and my keyboard has stopped working entirely multiple times (backlight, and the keys themselves all that). I factory reset yesterday and it worked perfectly fine, but now it doesn't work again.
Anyone know what the issue is and how to solve this issue?

    Thanks

yes i had this issue after like 6 months of using the laptop (first the rgb stopped, then all keys). because i had warranty i've send it back to the reseller. they changed the (40pin?) cable from the keyboard which is connected on the backside of the mainboard. i think the cable is somehow faulty.

The thing I factory reset my laptop yesterday and that fixed the issue. But earlier today it stopped working again. Now the backlight is back on and the keys work again, but the backlight stays blue (I can't change it) and I'm pretty sure if I restart my laptop it'll stop working again. I'm 90% sure this is a software thing but I'm not really an expert on this so I don't know who to fix it.

This has been an issue with some people myself included. The problem is your your keyboard ribbon cable. For whatever reason it is going bad on some of these. I fixed mine by ordering a new cable. You have to remove the motherboard to get to the connector on the keyboard. Here is the one I used to fix it... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S1C68C3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here is a post from another member on the specs for the ribbon cable. The only thing about his post is that you DO NOT have to remove the heatsink from the motherboard...

Thanks for the reply. I guess this is what is most likely my issue.
Do you know of a “tear down guide” I can use to help me remove my motherboard?

    Thanks

@TheTaxCollector If you decide to not remove the heatsink be very carefull to the little ribbon cable that connects the power button to the motherboard. It's hidden behind the top of the heatsink, at the right of the left fan.

@clone1008 did you have too the issue that when the keyboard didn't work the battery didn't get recognised even if fully charged? Only happened when the keyboard didn't boot with windows.

Can someone recommend a set or links to good replacement thermal pads?

I don't need the XR-m stuffed, but if Arctic pads are good, that's fine. Whatever will be a little improvement over stock. I want to replace and make sure every component has a pad.

These pads look good? Think I could get away with 1.0mm everywhere, or do I need to get 0.5 and 1.5 pads too?

Yes I had that same issue...it would say it was 125%. You also need to be careful with the ribbon cable for the 2nd drive and USB when removing the mother board.

Is your still working? How much passed from repair?
Mine is dead again, no keyboard and no battery, this time lasted 10/15 days. The first time I probably damaged the cable trying a different setup placing the cable under the battery instead of over it. This time I don't know, the cable looks immaculate as factory. I have other 4 spare cables to try but I'm really frustrated by this issue, I think I'll send the laptop back to repair next week and see what happens.

8750h / 1060 6gb model, purchased through Walmart.... The Walmart customer service just bounced me around, then I had one tell me to contact OverPowered support, which I did via email. Took 24 hours for a response after each email, but they did give me a return under warrenty / repair / replace order number, and I was going to reset Windows and send it the next morning.... When I got up and turned my laptop on that following morning (almost a week since the problem started), the laptop fired up and was running like nothing happened and I could not replicate the issue with the flickering screen any more, even while on battery power.

I even attempted to run a few games and pull the power plug so it would switch to battery while the gpu was under load, which normally hard shuts down the laptop (like what caused the issue while I was gaming before... I don't know if there was a power spike in my area or if the laptop just overheated and completely shut off, but that's when the problem happened).

I have still not had the screen flickering reoccur, and when I told the OverPowered support that the problem doesn't happen anymore and I have no idea how to replicate the issue for them to even diagnose it, I was told to give it a week or two and see. So far I haven't had any issue.

I did save all the email messages with timestamps just incase the issue does happen again outside of warranty just to show that the problem happened within the time of coverage.

If the problem happens to me again, you'll definitely see me back in here in the forums.... Been spending a lot of time helping my dad with his new MSI Creator, trying to get the 10875h / 2080 super to perform better than his Sager 8700k / 1060 with rendering videos... so far the Sager has been outperforming the new MSI. Such a headache.

Hey guys. I know this is the thread for the GK5 but im sure it should apply to the GK7 as well.

Has anyone run a different command center on their machine? Eg Eluktronics Controk Center on say a OP? I'm planning on using that on my machine from Illegear in Malaysia

Maybe that’s why, I travelled a lot with the laptop in my backpack.
Touching the rear panel looks like its weak in the center area over the keyboard cable, it can be pushed in quite easily. The inner side of the panel has “grid” that should give stiffness to the panel but seems to damage the cable when pushed on it, I made some pictures where eventually you can see grid’s marks on the cable itself.
Now I mounted another one of the 5 cables lot I bought on AliExpress and placed a smooth piece of plastic over the grid inside the panel, it will reduce the gap between the battery and the panel but should be a smooth contact area for the cable and hopefully don’t damage it again. Let’s see. 6638145E-41AC-4FA3-92DC-FF5F40A6CF05.jpeg A1613F08-3644-4882-89FF-C038A0077C34.jpeg E6E15884-BD09-4EE0-BC9B-BFB93F6EC6AC.jpeg ED00AD34-17F4-4EDC-BDDC-3FAC7A963D5F.jpeg

XMG has their Project Aurora being worked on for keyboard backlighting so i was quite interested in that.

I also recommend checking out Monster's. It has all the features I have seen in different versions of CC, higher version number and no bugs yet. Also custom fan curve is there, and auto turnoff etc works.

    Webpage: https://www.monsternotebook.com.tr/t7_v19-4/

    Direct: http://www.monstersdriver.com/drivers/tulpar/T7_V19-3/GamingCenter.rar

Which also has aurora switch built-in:

On my lap i cant. It depends from bios settings, some laptops can, like max-15 max-17, i saw on youtube reviews. In office mode i have 45-55w TDP and fans working only from 67*C, thats very good for me and i dont need to change anything. I have only 1 irritating bug, but its applicable to all gk5cn6z - fans percentage based on GPU temperature and if i quickly closing GPU-loading app, percentage will stuck on 30 or 50%, because EC cant read GPU temperature and i need to wake GPU through nvidia control panel if i want silence. Or combination LCtrl+LShift+Win+B to make some hw GPU reset. And this doesnt happen if you using external monitor as GPU not fully sleeping.

Just to advise on screen flickering issues. I've had the same issue on my GK5CP0Z (I7-8750H+RTX2060) and since completing a reinstall of Windows after removing everything but 1 stick of RAM and an SSD the issue hasn't returned(even after booting up my original SSD with the original install of Windows).

It's been fine for over 2 months now and has been running for at least a few hours everyday.

Suspect it's some kind of BIOS bug.

I have an Evoo Powered LP5 laptop same chassis as TONGFANG GK* model. I bought a 4k 15.6 LCD screen and would like to know how to replace the LCD. The bezel is very narrow and it doesn't look like it can clip off easy without breaking it.
I read that it has some adhesive that needs to heat to loosen up.

Can anyone walk me through a full guide on how to remove the bezel and remove the original panel and replace it? If there are no screws, would I need double sided tape and some sort of prying tool?

Mine experience with replacing was like http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...gk5cq7z-gk5cp0z.815943/page-461#post-10975850
You definetely need to heat it before, its very bonded. Your tape placing may be another, if you having other model, but 90% its the same.

I found interesting feature. If i run laptop from AC and then turn off charger, minimal idle discharging is 11-12W with 100% keyboard illumination and 70% screen brightness. But if i run laptop from battery initially, there is applying some options unavailable to see by user and discharging will be 7.8W. And if i turn off keyboard backlight and make 50% screen brightness i can get even 4.7-5.2W or 5.7W with 70%.

Does anyone knows where to turn off the light bar? It used to be in the gaming center but I can't find the section for light bar anymore. I can only control the RGB of the keyboard.

Hey Guys! I've recently formated my computer and made a clean windows install, everything is fine but the usb ports are now recognized as 2.0? Any idea why? https://imgur.com/a/2BlavZi

@partyMcFly Have you ever fixed your issue? My Device manager is the same as you and the ports are working... the only issue is that they are working as 2.0 and not 3.0 usb ports

How do you remove the cable from the board? Does the white part of the connector flip up? Is there a latch that locks the ribbon down?

The black part of the connector flips up. Be very careful doing this because it can break pretty easily and then you've got other problems.

If it's happening to so many people, the ribbon cable failing, why aren't there any lawsuit? class action? Is walmart doing anything about it?

Has anyone actually done a RMA on an overpowered laptop? I finally got a hold of the company and I’m mailing it to an address in California which googles ESI. Seems like a distributor. Will they probably just replace it? I’ve developed the Flickering screen when you boot up and flickers when its brighter than 10%.
