Not positive how eluktronics applies their liquid metal but I wouldn't be worried about it leaking. They don't seem load it on to the point where it will ever leak out under normal conditions. But I'm sure if you dropped the computer enough times with a decent amount of force it could possibly happen. Mine actually had to get redone by them because it was a little thin on part of the die and one of the cores. I'd assume they use a brush, but I could be wrong. I'm sure sure if you called them they would be able to give you an exact answer though.
And the keyboard on the 17 is totally usable. It's not the best keyboard I've ever used, but I don't have any major complaints with it. The spacing is a little bit tight on the number pad, but it's not a deal breaker. And the lighting on the keyboard is adequate. Not terribly bright but I haven't noticed it being washed out in direct light.

The only exposure I had with the mech 17 chassis was the OP laptop but I read it's been changed. It's not that the rgb is bad but more not as good as msi. They just don't appear to be as bright and the msi definitely has more intuitive settings and modes. I'm the type to set it to one color and leave it for months so... It's all the same to me but if you're an RGB aficionado, this doesn't appear to be all of that lol.
I can't speak on the mech 15 but basing it on m previous laptop which was a full behemoth and a half, the number pad is pretty cramped and really close to the main keys. I'm still waiting on my unit, which should be shipping anyways day now... I'll keep you posted. Based on own or disown, dave2d and a few others the keyboard is just fine thought. Better tactile feel than the ge75 I'd guess but the msi will have better lighting and rgb software out of the box.Installed64 likes this. -

Does anyone know if they will be releasing a Mech-17 G2 like the Mech-15 G2
I only as because the build quality and keyboard look to be nicer on the G2 version of the 15". It looks like there is more metal on the G2 version as well. -
This could prove to be problematic as one of the complaints of the G2 was the "unrefined" metal edges. If you tend not to rest your arm on the deck then it's a non-issue.Installed64 and jrwingate6 like this. -
I did read that about the edges....Thank you for the response. -

So anyone know when Elucktronics will stop offers of the 144hz panel as standard option? Guess its a Tongfang sourcing issue .

Such as which card is better suited for a 1080p panel the 2060 or 2070? -
Has anyone found a sleeve for this chassis? It's closer to 15.6" laptop dimensions but slightly over, so it doesn't fit 15.6" sleeves but 17.3" sleeves are too big

Also when you break it down, ordering from the site comes out to be $50 cheaper factoring specs. I was going to go with amazon since I'm a prime member but they're not shipping those same day anyways so I just placed it in the site. The only upside on amazon is guaranteed painless returns, although eluktronics did confirm they'd match amazon, but you never know lol.LamsonMusic likes this. -

Also, just got a call as they were building it, went over the unit as they were working on it. Changed status to shipped, so far so good.jrwingate6 likes this. -

Hm the Mech 17 is unavailable on Amazon
-
Just ordered it through Amazon. I wonder if I call them tomorrow, if they they will offer me the promotions that they offer if you built the laptop on their website.
Either way, I ordered :
Mech-17 with 2070, 16gb Dual Channel, 1TB Electronics SSD and the thermal paste upgrade.
It's saying it will be here Tuesday but I may just call them tomorrow and ask if I can pick it up from their facility on Monday considering I only live 45 minutes away.

I bought the Eluktronics Mech-17 G1R with an i7-8750h and an RTX 2060. My question is, will this 16gb (8x2) RAM fit in my laptop? It is the CORSAIR VENGEANCE SODIMM 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2666 C18 Laptop Memory Kit from Amazon.

Need help with a keyboard question:
Im in the UK and have two resellers in mind: CyberPower and PC Specialists. CyberPower can actually get the same specs AND a free controller for less than PC Specialists but they only have a US keyboard.
My question is that can I replace the different key caps with the UK ones? For this to work, the left shift and enter key would have to have a 2nd button below it. Could someone check that it does? Everything else should be the same.Last edited: Mar 18, 2019 -

It just came! Initial impressions are much better than I expected. Did a once over to inspect it and go over initial setup going to run through benchmarks and stress testing, if all checks out I'll go ahead and swap out the drives and install a clean windows pro.

Also, I wonder why TongFang didn't try to put an RTX 2080 or even the MaxQ in this chassis. Looking at other peoples reviews, it seems like it would be capable of handling it. -

I ended up going with the Eluktronics 500gb SSD and plan on purchasing a Samsung Evo 1TB down the road.
By the way, have you out a undervolt on the CPU?

Wow! Just received mine today(got lucky on last week's restock). I downloaded the 10gb driver package off their support page but it looks like it's already got the latest audio, CPU and Mobo drivers preinstalled. I also didn't notice any bloatware, is there really a reason for me to do a fresh format?
Also the BIOS looks new, is there a newer version? I'm running BIOS 1.08 and EC 1.08.09.
Let me know! Thanks!! Will start stress testing tomorrow.Installed64 likes this. -
As far as bloat I just reinstalled windows 10 pro from scratch just to make sure. -
There's no need to do a clean install. The windows image that they install truly is bloat free. Enjoy!! What configuration did you go with? -

Apparently the new Eluktronics Bios has removed the ability to hit the turbo fan but instead swaps between gaming and office mode... which is kind of lame lolLamsonMusic likes this. -
Good point. I didn't even think of the change to the turbo button with the new bios. Then again I switched my fan profile to the user created fan manager found a few pages back in this thread. I have it set to run the fans at turbo speed whenever Temps excede 65 degrees. So much easier than having to toggle the turbo fans through the gaming center every time I want to sit down and play. -

So far, i gotta say i'm really impressed with this unit. For $1800, it's a hell of a package :i7, rtx2070, 144hz Screen, 16gb 2666mhz ram, 1TB NVME SSD + 128gb , Liquid Metal, Dead pixel warranty.
Pros:
- The build quality is pretty robust. the top lid feel solid, it's relatively thin aluminum so it's not Omen X build or AW magnesium but it's right up there with the Asus and MSI metals.
- Performance is ridiculous. I ran some basic stability benchmarks and ran Apex for 2+ hours and the highest recorded temp was 81 on synthetics (occt and aida 64) and hovers at 71-74 while gaming.
- The screen is snappy and bright!! I'm coming from a 120hz (and 144hz which was plagued with screen bleed) and this is a nice surprise. Very minimal screen bleed and 144hz, with a relatively low response time. (9ms based on Eluktronics specs)
- My previous Omen X 17 has a phenomenal mechanical keyboard and this one, is right up there with it. I was worried about the camped layout but I haven't had an issue yet. It stays cool under load and +1 on adding backlight on the FN. It isn't as tactile and clicky as the omen X but i chose the brown switches on purpose. My wife was not a happy camper with me clickity-clackin' in bed at night lol.
- The chassis has little to no flex around the keyboard and solid around the palm rest area.
- I absolutely love the thin bezels and the form factor as whole. Being this compact i'm now able to fit this laptop in my Northface Router backpack, in the actually built in sleeve. It's super and snug and doesn't scrape on the zipper.
- Top lid "bobbles" a bit more than i'd like it to. It's operating as it should, it's smooth as butter and stays put at all angles but if i move the laptop it just bobbles back and forth for a second. Not sure if it's because of the weight on the hinge or i'm just nitpicking.
- Bottom panel plastic is very soft and has more give than i'd like. i'm worried about long term effects especially with heat cycles and plastic drying out (common problem on both of my Sagers)
- RGB is not really a Con or a Pro but more of a Meh Imo. I'm glad it a per-key RGB but it's also not too hot. It's nice to have options but the animations and options are choppy/clunky. It's also not that bright, if you're coming for regular backlighting, it's more than adequate, but if you've been exposed to good RGB, it leaves more to be desired.
- Sound is meh. It's a non-issue for me as I use headsets when gaming or browsing
- Gaming Center software - It's good that it comes with one, and while it's not as intuitive as the mainstream brand ones (Omen, AW, ROG, MSI) it's still MUCH better than the ones i had on my Sagers but it does look dated, un-intuitive, and just lackluster.

Okay, so just ran into my first issue - anyone experiencing issues with GeForce experience? I'm able to run games and do pretty much everything on and off battery but as soon as I open GeForce experience and start pressing buttons (scanning for games or any tab) I get a BSOD with error listed as "VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT".
It was all working fine yesterday but I upgraded to the latest driver from Nvidia and latest GeForce experience version. Is everyone upgrading drivers or sticking with the vendor ones? -
-
What are the benefits of GeForce? I always just manually download my drivers.
