Only $20 for the battery upgrade is an awesome value from Eluktronics. I have the 1060 model and would have easily paid another $100 for the 2060, that's not bad at all.

What was the final consensus of these panels. An overclocked 60hz? Eluktronics is now offering 60hz option. But in curious if it's potentially just the same panel, that hasn't been overclocked...

Edit: I think I got my answer. I emailed Eluktronics inquiring about thier 60hz panel and 144hz. They said "We were originally offering an option between the panels of 60Hz and 144Hz. However, we have made changes internally that is allowing free upgrades to the 144Hz panel so the price was actually reduced by $50 since our initial launch."

I was curious because at the release of the RTX gpu's they started charging $50 more for the 144hz. So I'm assuming they are just overclocking the 60hz now.

I have the 1060gtx model (not budging as I rarely game) and absolutely love this chassis. Maybe if I can sell my MSI and overpowered for a good price I'd consider upgrading (not in rush though, as I might want to wait till intel pushes 10nm on laptops in december 19.

It's one of the best laptops i've had ever! I like this chassis so much I'm wanting to get the elukronics one with a 2070gtx and maybe i9.

Yeah, the RTX 2070 model for $1600 barebones looks like an insane deal. Btw, is the lack of G-SYNC that bad, or is G-SYNC not really necessary for laptops with high refresh rate panels? I am seriously considering getting this chassis from Eluktronics, but lack of G-SYNC is the only thing that I am concerned about.

I don't have enough experience with g-sync to speak to it tbh. I for one love the 144hz and it's good enough for me (not a heavy gamer but want rtx for graphics/rendering research)

Is the PWM flickering of the panel that this chassis uses that bad? Or is it preventable?

I always run it on 100% brightness so haven't noticed the PWM flicker.

I have to agree with the previous poster that this is a great chassis. I am very happy with the value and my purchase.

Just now I have a hard time realizing how cheap it is. Enjoying the mechanical keyboard, windows precision trackpad and monitor
I'm hoping that nvidia's lackluster RTX sales will help drive laptop prices down. Hopefully we can see an Overpowered RTX laptop sooner than expected :)

Does anyone know if this laptop is compatible with VR? I'm hoping to buy one of these to use with an Oculus Rift (3-sensor setup)

And I would also be interested to hear if the PWM flicker is noticeable/bad/etc...!

    Thanks :)

I pretty sure someone could make a G-Sync Driver mod, I don't really like G-Sync due to the cost it does in battery life.

Didn't think about that. Also g-sync would be able to work through an external monitor.

Wow, there's a lot to love about this laptop. I'm probably going to go with this laptop, with an RTX 2070 and an i7 8750H from Eluktronics. I was also considering the Helios 500, but this laptop is much smaller and lighter, and has a better GPU. Seeing a lot of good praise for this chassis in this thread, definitely boosts confidence in this chassis!

I thought I read in multiple places that although the laptop panel might not support g-sync, g-sync works when outputting to an external monitor.

Repeating information from GK5CN, If no one yet knew, there are 3 version of the blue switch currently, v1 is from the earliest models, v2 has better response, sharper click, v3 refines it even more. Brown switches have two versions, v1 from the time Overpowered started and v2 that is going to be closer to a silent switch. There seem to be 2 version of the keycaps for the 17, v1 is less stable, v2 is improved to be more stable.

There is a way to enable unofficial G-sync on the laptop monitor if the laptop's monitor can be forced on to the dGPU, NVIDIA is starting to allow software G-Sync on monitors with newer nvidia drivers.

I wonder how difficult that would be, but if there is a fairly straightforward way to do it, I think quite a few people would have enabled G-SYNC on their machine.

So the newer models have improved keyboards/keycaps/switches? Or is it just luck of the draw?

Newer models have better keyboards basically, companies also prefer to replace the whole keyboard, from using a new plate with the same holes, not per switch currently. Companies can request whatever options are still available. All keycaps currently can be requested with labels or unlabeled, XMG is an example that does their labeling by themselves.

You mean free-sync?, an AMD card is needed for F-S, but NVIDIA's new drivers allow software G-Sync on to Free-sync monitors, not all free-sync monitors can work with g-sync without some side effects.
If you mean Fast-sync Nvidia, follow this https://beebom.com/what-is-nvidia-fast-sync-enable/
Not really sure ATM, and even if it doesn't show up, I bet there just need to be a small driver mod to allow it.

I'm so close to pulling the trigger on this laptop but I'm worried about PWM that has been found unless the brightness is at 100% which I won't put it on. Is it better for me to wait and hope that the 15+ comes back which doesn't have PWM?

Give this custom Control Center a try, http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/tongfang-gk5cn5z-and-tongfang-gk5cn6z.815943/page-336 I think it might be better than the one that is coming with the laptop by a lot.

I apologize if this has been covered and I've simply glossed over it in the 24 pages on this system..

10 years ago, I got one of those MSI MS-1651s that later were rumored to be thefts.

It was a great laptop. But, the reason I bring it up was that it as the OEM version was able to be flashed with the retail unit's EC or BIOS or something. I forget what it was, but it enabled some new features. A touch sensor was enabled after the flash for a turbo button. Did me no good on my T7250, but if I'd have had a Penryn like a P8600...

    Anyway!

With this in use by so many different manufacturers, does anyone know how well these work with flashes by other companies? Like, if OverPowered wants to drag their feet on releasing a fixed BIOS or controller, can it be flashed with an Eluktronics release, since it's the same TongFang underneath it all?

It's not an obvious feature at first, but default shortcuts for brightness control in f.lux are Alt+PgUp and Alt+PgDn. It seems to be much better for PWM to my eyes using this test https://www.testufo.com/blurtrail Try and see what you think.

Stoked to see how this turns out! This could potentially be the best 2070 laptop out there, especially for the price.

Not sure what kind of testing you plan to do, but I would be interested to see any of the following results:

    Cinebench OpenGL test
3Dmark TimeSpy and/or Firestrike (free version or cheap on Steam)
    Passmark graphics performance test

Do also monitor performance with GPU-Z or MSI Afterburner (Rivatuner in-game overlay) to keep track of temps, clock speed, and power draw.

    Have fun!

If people are trying to get a hold of this chassis, Overpowered still has this in stock,
    https://www.walmart.com/ip/OVERPOWE...256-SSD-2TB-HDD-32GB-RAM-Windows-10/887474519
Cheapest overall, it's bound to have the latest keyboard from Tongfang brown switches and keycaps.
If you want to add a back up warranty, wait until the last eligible day, and add the 3-year option which does not show up on the OP laptops (Walmart trying to save money I think since too many people want this laptop)
    https://www.walmart.com/ip/3-Year-Accident-Protection-Plan-for-Laptops-Tablets-700-4999-99/746318520
This is the cheapest 3 year warranty option from every single company that sells this chassis.
Note the added warranty overlaps with OP's warranty, meaning the 3 year will only add a year of warranty after the OP warranty. The first 2's of the Walmart warranty can be used if OP cannot repair the laptop due to the lack of parts or OP shuts down.

Do you think you could also do some game testing? Curious as to what kind of frames that beast can push!
