Yes, this is the same post I made in the M17 Forum, but I know you OCZ guys have the same rig.
So... I (Finally?) decided to try out the TV tuner in the M17 (Yes I ordered it, it is installed, it's an Avermedia card). I took my big white coax from the wall, connected it to the adapter (which, incidentally, they forgot to send me the frist time) and got Windows Media Center (ick) going. I set up the connection manually as Cable, since for some reason every time I had it do it automatically, it detected a "digital antenna". When I start up "Live TV," I get nothing but snow on every channel. I do not have a digital cable box, just regular run-of-the-mill cables through the wall from Comcast. No matter what I do, I can't get picture, and I know that the cable has signal because it works on the TV I pulled it out of.
I tried letting the AutoSetup use it's digital antenna thing, I get one channel - the spanish channel, crystal clear. It's channel 1691. I don't speak spanish and I only get channels 1-100. Go figure.
Anyone?

if it helps... I speak Spanish... lol

LOL ^^
It sounds like a software problem. Is this an internal card, that u installed under the keyboard or is it an Express card? Sounds like an internal that's picking up digital over-air. -
Oh great and wise E-wrecked.
It's the internal, came with the thing. I figured it'd be nice to record stuff while I'm at work on my lappy since i upped the drives to a TB
Anyway, I just got off the phone with AW, who sent me to Comcast, who said I'm getting an NTSC signal with no magical encryption. I tired installing
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929011 as per the guy at AW, but it says it's not for this system. Which it is, so I don't get it.
Anyway, this thing is a hybrid card. It should do ATSC/NTSC. If I try to set it up as an NTSC Antenna it doesn't work either... which leads me to believe that maybe, just maybe, the connection between the wire and the connector might be NG. It's a thought. A bad one. But I'll have AW send me a new tuner minicard before I give in to sending this thing back for a new MoBo. -
There has been reports that there is an issue with the tuner, if I remember right. As far as, the mobo and tuner compatabilty and functioning. I assume it's the same reason turbo memory has issues and won't function. It's up to u, but it only takes five minutes to access the card. There should be a single black wire connected to it. It's under. The keyboard, upper right under a silver plate that slides off. Remove baseplate, remove all rear base edge screws, remove the one mobo screw by the gpu heatsink assembly, remove threes or four screws off rear of rig. Be careful, there's three sizes so know what goes where. Then pop off the quick keys up top and remove keyboard.
that's if u have five minutes.

Use your tuning program to tune to channel 3 or 4, then try to tune with you box for channels and not your internal card. -

Thanks for the feedback. Dan, I'll call ocz tomorrow to inquire. Since mine is not an AW system. Or, if u visit their support site and create a ticket attention jamie she will likely assist out of kindness. She's a really nice lady, with a ton of knowledge.

E-wrecked, I missed that post where you said access the card. When this whole thing started, I had pulled it open, reseated it, and checked all the wires. Anyway, the tuner is an avermedia A317, a card so amazing and new that according to avermedia's website it doesn't even exist yet. go figure.
Anyway, alienware is sending me a new one, which I doubt will fix the problem. I'm digging even deeper and finding that media center may have personal issues with comcast, and my next trick is to find how to tweak the frequenceis manually. I can find tons for XP MCE '05, but nothing on Vista as far as frequency hacking. I found an XML file with a buncha frequencies, and registry keys as well, but none seem to be for the american setup.
I think what I may try is picking a different country, and just hacking the regi and xml for that country, and seeing what happens.
TV Tuner not TV Tuning
