Alright guys. I've noticed that over the past couple weeks, people have been posting a lot of gripes/views/opinions/facts on the shipping dates at waiting time of the sager 2090/compal IFL90. The problem is, the posts have been spread over EVERY thread imaginable, even ones that don't relate to the subject. So instead of clicking through every thread and finding relevant information, I figured we could start one big thread about it.

Hear anything about the ship date? Any thoughts about delays? Have you already gotten yours? Post it here!

Should be a lot easier to keep track of. And maybe Donald and the other resellers can post here if they get any further information. Or they could start their own threads I guess ;)

Heh yeah I guess we needed one of these. Having a place to check for legitamate updates on the shipping process would be nice too.

Yep, and like i say if Donald or Justin would honor this thread with their presence if they discover any new information, it would be an awesome way to check up on the ETA of the IFL90's

I called xotic today and they said WSXGAs should be in within the next two weeks.

Which is what they told me two weeks ago.

    And two weeks before that.

Well you have to know that this must be really stressful for the resellers (Donald and Justin) and were experiencing it too. What can we do other than just waiting? I'm sure that they are doing all that they can so that we recieve the np2090 as soon as we can.

But seriously I'd like to have it before September ha ha.

On the sager side it looks like the WXGA will begin to ship soon. The WSXGA arent shipping for a couple weeks. Anyone heard about the WXGA+?

are we going to get any sort of compensation for the extremely long waits.. I mean, fact of the matter is, I need a laptop before august 9th, and if its not looking good, or i mean looking great, I think I need to cancel my order.

Everyone did. If you want to cancel, cancel. NOWHERE did Donald or Justin or anybody else promise a certain release date. They have been very good at telling us that they are "expected" ship dates. They go on the information they have, which changes often. Don't expect them to go out of their way to compensate you for something they didn't do wrong. You knew this was a pre order when you did order it.

I dont believe in the "compensation" issue at all, but lets face it guys, shipping was to begin in mid June. I think its acceptable for some people to be pretty antsy and slightly frustrated at this point.

Their sites were updated to say "Shipping Mid-July". The Sagers are beginning to ship very soon; today is July 11, 2007, which sounds like Mid July to me.

Pre-orders began right around May 19th and at that point the estimated ship date was mid June.

Why hasn't this issue been brought up before, I wonder? I ordered my Sager late June and Powernotebooks.com's estimate was Mid-July in the configurator.

Nobody in the US has the high res yet, it was just the WXGA that came in. I had pre-ordered in May and then cancelled, and then pre-ordered this time through Xotic so I could switch to a G1S if the delay kept on going.... But darn it, I don't think I can bring myself to do anything but wait.... *sob*

So technically I havent been waiting the whole time with one order, but some (cough cough, Donsell) have been.

Well at least some of the laptops made it. The other ones can't be too far behind. Fortunately I have been working two jobs so I haven't had time to think about the delay, although I have been waiting since June 11th.

That was an estimated date. That was the date they were told, but they did warn us it was estimated. So it's our fault for ordering and thinking that was a concrete date, imo

We all knew it was estimated, but not +/- 90 days, correct? Anyone that pre-orders should know that there are no guarantees, but noone including Donald and Justin thought it was possible that it would be this long.

I disagree that its our fault, and its not Justins or Donalds fault either. But somewhere down the chain somebody said "We can get these things over there around mid-June" : Thats the guy/gal at fault. :)

If we could find him/her I would be first in line...death by a thousand cuts :realmad:

Kidding aside, we understand everyone's frustration, and appreciate even more their understanding the situation.

The good news is the wait is finally almost over.

It's a good thing too because it sounds like many of you are almost at the end of your string... :chatterbox:

Yeah I know what you mean, Tim. I'm in the military and have so little time in my hands to get frustrated about getting my new machine. There are even times when I forget I have a new machine coming.

Well I look at it this way, we can all b***h, moan, and play the blame game, but nothing will change the hands of time of when we will have our machines under our eager palms. I myself am hang on this one. So those we are impatient can cancel. Nobody is holding a gun to your head. ;)

No I haven't cancelled. I really, really needed my machine by tomorrow and I've had to beg to borrow a colleague's.

The truth is there isn't another machine out there that I'd want. I took a hard look at the Latitude 830 and it seems to be good, but with much weaker graphics. I'm done with Dell consumer laptops so the 1520s aren't something I want. If the Asus V1S was out I'd look at it, but I expect it to have worse battery than the IFL90.

    So I have to wait.

Regarding the delays in shipping. I fully place the blame on Compal. Affixing the label "ETA" to a date means zilch as far as I'm concerned. I'm ready to give some slack if there's a nice paragraph that explains the ETA but without an explanation ETA means nothing. If you give a date, give something firm. Build your deadline so that you have buffer time to deal with contingencies. Otherwise, don't give a date.

Then there's the problem that Compal has blown multiple ETAs already and we are still at this stage being given ETAs. I see two possible explanations: 1) someone over there is making up dates to shut up the resellers; 2) Compal has a serious production management problem, or both.

Sounds harsh, doesn't it? I know very well what it means to set deadlines and live up to them because I used to be a software engineer. It was my sole responsibility to tell the people concerned when the software I was working on would be ready. If I screwed up, it was my fault and no one else's. I could not hide behind the label "ETA".

If all goes well, the shipping deadline I was given by PowerNotebooks will be missed only once. (Remember: I put the blame on Compal for the delays, not PowerNotebooks.) Still, it is the entire situation that informs my opinion of Compal in this matter. I have to say that the only thing that has kept me from canceling is the fact that the IFL90 (as Sager NP2090, in my case) is just in the right spot as far as bang for the buck is concerned. It has the features I want and does not have the features I don't want (for instance, I don't want to buy another Windows license). My patience however is wearing very thin.

My best guess is the delay was caused by two unforeseen intervening factors:

    1. Original ETA was pushed back because of the inability of the LCD supplier to keep their delivery promise to Compal.
    2. DELL or some other Multi-National Brand then took over that production slot with one of their typical huge orders, and the production of the IFL90 had to wait for another available slot...which could also have been preempted by yet another Multi-National Brand order.

This is the way it works with factories like this. When they can't get a part that is needed for full production they can't just stand idle. Their production schedule is planned several months in advance, and if for some reason you miss your slot getting another one becomes a challenge.

For you history buffs...does this remind you of the Berlin Airlift...and if so...why?
