OK folks, I ran two battery test on my 6130-HS2 with GOOD and Bad results!!

Setting, I turned down the display all the way, disabled pcmcia, disabled infrared (does this thing even have that?), disbaled the internal modem and internal netword card (not the wireless) as well as the printer port!. I have NO idea if any of that made a difference but I figured it was worth noting. I had NO devices plugged into the laptop as well. The idea is to simulate true mobility here...like say on an airplane or some such.

Test 1: Wireless on, suring the net, downloading and playing mp3s from naptster, chatting via yahoo IM. PLaying yahoo games. Just normal usage (for me). I managed 1 hour 45 min. I was surprised. Very surprised but not impressed mind you. No to bad. The next nest was the bad news!

Test 2: Wireless OFF, and tried to play a dvd from the drive. NOPE
I got one hour of life out of the battery and could not finish the movie. No new news here. Next test is to TRY to watched a ripped movie without the drive. Will keep you updated.

i've noticed that on random occasions, that it will seem to run a lot longer then it usually does. Maybe some acutal power saving things start working for a bit. And yes this model does have infra red. its on the back next to the s-vid, and usb port. That seems pretty good for this machine to get one hour when playing a dvd, i didn't think that it would last that long. I didn't know you could disable the modems and pcmcia stuff. maybe that did give you some more power.

I have read that there is some sfotware than run side by side with XP that will allow you to play dvds without booting up the os and you can get longer batt life! I always assumed it was a hardware thing like some of the newer laptops offer. Has anyone seen this? I will snoop around the net today and see if I can find anything.

The averatec 6200 series mobile theater does this. I don't know if it is a hardware setting or software. But it seems that Averatec created the workhouse model (6100) and then created a movie watching model (6200)

Yea, it seems to be a hardware type deal. I couldn't find anything. Its a shame. Great laptop just not "airplane friendly".

Now I need yet another gadget!!

The Archos 20gig mp3/divx/mpeg player.... good thing money grows on trees!!

    New Update!!!

Tried Playing a movie (dvdrip) right off the hard drive and only managed 1 hour 20 minutes until the laptop forced into hibernation @ 9% batt life left. Hope this helps some people.
Looks like the 6130-hs2 isn't good for media on batteries.
