    Hey All,

I am the new proud owner of the Actius AL 27! I was first introduced to this computer through a wonderful review on this website--so thanks to whoever was responsible for that. I have had this computer for only a few days now, but after researching what laptop to buy for a little over 2.5 months I was finally won over by this system. I must admit that even as I went in to buy this system at the incredibly low price of $1198 at Sam's club I wasn't fully confident in my purchase. I wasn't sure if I would like all the white, or how well the system would perfom. Also, I was expecting the worst from this system's speakers from other reviewers horror stories. However, after all of these concerns and many more, I can now say that I am totally in love with this system. There simply is not a better system for the price. The screen is incredible (DVD's look awesome), the scratch resistant coating on the case is very comfortable for typing, it has a DVD burner, and this baby scoots! It is much faster than my Dad's Dell Inspiron 8500, plus it is lighter. I could go on and on, but it will suffice to say that I am liking this system the more that I use it. Unless you are going to do heavy gaming, or would like something more portable, this is a great buy for almost any purpose. Actually, I'm surprised at how little attention this computer is receiving. It does have downsides of course. There is no s-video output, the cd/dvd drive is a little flimsy, yada yada. However, the speakers are not as bad as I feared they would be and the screen casing is not flimsy as some have reported. All in all, a great buy. Those who have held back from buying this sucker, wait no longer. It is well worth your money. A few words of advice on the extras. I found an adapter at Sam's Club that plugged into a car cigarette lighter that would take just a normal AC plug. It came in a pack of two for only $23! Also, there is a nice small Targus bag at Best Buy for $30 after rebate; it fits the computer quite nicely. That's all I got. Go buy it.

    hi Glenn,

Thanks for this great feedback on the Actius AL 27 and really glad you're liking it so much. Often times people get stuck looking at only the major brands notebooks such as Dell, HP and Toshiba. But there are so many great offerings out there from smaller players in the market such as Sharp, so you were wise to take time and do research and then jump on a good deal.

Here's a link to that review you refer to:

Yeah, I don't understand why this isn't becoming a popular notebook. It has great value for all the things that you get included in the purchase. I can't wait to get one of these!

Windows - The operating system that runs the world.

Toshiba - Quality, price, and features!

Just bough mine today from Sam's Club as well. Funny story (I'll keep it short), I have been saving up to buy a Sharp Mebius AL90G for a few months now, and then a friend of mine mentioned how someone he knows just purchased a Mobile Athlon 64 Sharp laptop for only $1799. Since the Sharp Mebius AL90G retails for around $3200, this was an amazing deal and I started doing reserach immediately. It ends up that the AL27 is the EXACT same notebook marketed for the American market, and it also packs twice the amount of RAM that the AL90G has. I went from expecting to pay $3200 to paying $1198 at Sam's Club for the same notebook (woot!). I am very excited about this very mobile monster. At this price the AL27 is an absolute steal and should be greatly considered if you are looking for a 64-bit notebook with a mobile processor and an enhanced LCD weighing in at only 6.5lbs! I have yet to see a better design on a notebook aside from Apple's iBook line. Good job Sharp, damn good job.

You are not alone. Fortunately for most, this is a mistake that time will not allow others to make. What stands out on this computer is the display. The battery time was never anything to brag about. When new it was just over 2 hours. I got suckered because I found one returned to SAMS and got one that had 2 hours on it for under $800. That was 18 months ago.
The computer is okay, but the battery is crap. Now I am reconditioning it for the third time to try to whip the memory effect. It is good for about 5 minutes.
Otherwise it does have some nice features and the screen is bright with great contrast. The only quirk other than the crappy batter life is the so so wireless range. Okay, they could have packed XP Pro since it is clearly intended for business users.
Did I say the battery is a piece of crap....
    not portable in Illinois anymore...
