Hi everyone, I created this new thread because it seems that not a lot of people owns this laptop. (I do)
The COMPAL IFT00 is the one of:
Santa Rosa model - IFT00 - 14.1" wxga (glossy) Nvidia 8400 256mb.
![]()
I guess you guys who own it will know which one i'm talking about.
Recently (8 months ago) I got my graphics card dead. It was the one mentioned (Nvidia GeForce 8400GS - 256mb - MXM II). I tried to bake it and I got nothing. The only way to have it back was by covering the whole laptop with a towell and warming it to the hells. It worked for 3 days...
Now I'm trying to remplace my graphics card... After reading a lot of the Compal FL90/91, webpages like MXM-upgrade... I will probably get the "ATI Movility 3650 - 512mb - DDR2".
HAS ANYONE CHANGED ITS GRAPHIC CARD on IFT00?
HAS ANYONE BOUGHT THIS CARD ON EBAY? HOW WAS IT?
ARE THERE ANY RELIABLE SELLERS ON EBAY FOR COMPAL USERS??
I was using it with the latest stable BIOS (1.18). 4Gb RAM (2x 2GbDDR2 800). And Windows 7 64bits.
Does anyone know if i burnt my graphics by using this RAM? or it's just the ty Nvidia chips?
BTW: I got the official disassembly guide for the IFT00/01 some time ago, but It is on the laptop HDD, if someone needs it, let me know and ill get it.
Thanks to everyone

Hi,
there is this post ...
http://forum.notebookreview.com/compal/467871-fl90-videocard-trouble-5.html#post6148401
... where one guy got the IFT00 back to work with an ATI 3650.
As the IFT00 has the same BIOS as the FL90, I assume they are practically identical.
So, in conclusion, do what I wrote in the FL90 thread - get an ATI 3650 DDR2 512MB and hope the best.
You never can tell if it really works, but it's worth a try.
Also, did you try to bake your broken card? If you get it back to work with the broken/repaired card, you at least know that it really is the grafics card that has a fault, and not the mainboard, display, CPU, RAM, wires ...
Also, do a forum search again, there is quite a bit information about the IFT00, mostly hidden in thread about the (more popular) FL90/91.
Good luck!
The old Compal IFT00
