I've been messing around with a config:
http://uk.zepto.com/Shop/Config.aspx?configurationid=286¬ebookid=636
and I just think thats plain amazing for the money. I was looking at something that was portable, good for music programs such as Ableton, could hold its own if I fancied a portable game or two on the train or while away from work (big enough screen for DVDs perhaps) and somethint that looked nice to boot.
I was looking at the Amilo Xi 2428 range, but if Zepto get their finance sorted, this looks amazing!
Be nice to hear what the residents of this forum have to say though.

You can read a review of this machine here http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3938
This machine is currently on offer and so is the 6324 -
Ack, I need the UK finance options to come along. I'm selling a TV and buying an HD one and will have some spare cash left over, but not enough to cover that laptop!
Any idea on timescale for the finance at all? -
and as if by magic.... I have email
you know what, I may just go to fool.co.uk and research credit cards. its all the same thing! -
Sadly too long I think, the demand is too low and a hefty setting up procedure.
EDIT, We do only offer this for Danish customers dk.zepto.com -
the 6625wd is great, It handles gaming (Battlefield2) on med settings and resolution something like 14--x10-- and have fps at 50-60 (vsync on) on well lighted maps, nightmaps around 30, with some skips until the map is properly (and fully) loaded. Specs in signature.
The screen is also awsome; bright, well contrasted and amazing res (1680x1040) (yeah a widescreen).
Strongly recommend -
It's great for gaming, awesome screen resolution, pretty powerfull stuff inside. But don't expect to be playing games on the go...The average battery lifetime under heavy 3d use is less than an hour.
-
if you even manage to get 30mins gaming on battery
-
Sprint, you sure about those results??
I get average 50-55 on 1400 x 1050 (highest res possible in options) with every graphic detail set to max -
I have dynamic light/shadow off/low for a special reason (not that the lappy wouldnt make it). It might be that there isnt so big changes from med to max (and before I enabled VSync, I had framerates going over 70 frequently)
The fps there isnt average, just where It lives. Average, I think, would be over 60 (vsync off) -
-
There is now a 12 cell battery available at the time of purchase or separatly
-
What kind of performance can this offer?
EDIT:
oh and whats the humpy keyboard comment all about in the review! Is it really a big deal?
EDIT:
argh, just noticed my values didn't include vat. its about £920ish for the config I was looking at which is over my absolute max of £800.
However, there is the option of the 6224/6324. Which looks lovely. Smaller screen but everything else is intact. My spec comes to £765 (or £800 with extra flashy ram). -
I can get an hour gaming on the 6 cell battery.
I have a zepto 6224W and I am very pleased with it, the keyboard seems fine to me but it is personal preference I guess.
Performance depends on what games you want to play. If they are new ones like bioshock or crysis then you will have to tweak it alot to get playable framerates (Although I found bioshock to run rather well on high). Anything before that should play well on mostly high settings.
If you need more info on performance then look at some other laptop reviews with a similar processor and graphics card such as the Acer 5920 and dell vostro 1500. -
I've seen the Vostro mentioned before, is it a US thing? Didn't see it on the site!
Edit:
Games. I'm not expecting to have new stuff full flying. But it'd still be nice to have the 8600GT there. I'm sure that should handle Command & Conquer 3 etc -
With max use (3D and CPU):
12 Cell battery: 2 hours and 10 minutes
6 Cell battery: 1 hour and 25 minutes
Battery times are for guidance only and can vary per configuration. The tested configuration contains an Intel® Core™ Duo 1,66 GHz, 1x1024 MB Ram, wireless network, no TV-Tuner.
There is a VAT on-off switch on the left hand side of the website -
was playing the COD4 demo this week on my 6625 - very sweet indeed. smoooooooooooth stuff

I know that putting the backlight onto minimum makes a significant extension to the battery life of my 6024W, but the display is too dark to read.

If it helps, I was looking at the Vostro 1500 but went with the Zepto instead. It's smaller, lighter, more configerable when purchasing and also just seems to have that certain somthing extra.
The only real advantage that the Vostro seemed to have was possibly a slightly better keyboard/trackpad (although this is very subjective) and being a business machine you get Dell's next day on-site warrenty with it, but of course, that adds to the cost.
(Can't tell you if I made the right decision or not though, because my Zepto is still being made!)
