well yes they can be upgraded , Alienware has said they are working with flextronics on DDR 5 version of the 4870's. The new disributor should have them as well.

it can fit one nvidia card as well but only one no SLI

w90 right now is amazing it hold records in vantage and 3dmark 06 ... if your know how to flash your GPU's and dont care about a warrenty you will have a fast freaking laptop. Its running any game max right now i know of even crysis on high 1900 res

the ddr5 version is due sometime. no one knows just when yet but when they do come out it will be faster then the asus

I'm surprised I thought that you would definitely favor the ocz. glad to see the is no bias. I am willing to compromise a back lit keyboard, for a little extra performance, and the ability to oc my cpu through windows

you can OC on both computers we actually just had a member in our forum find the PLL to overclock the w90 ... he took it apart to find it then emailed setFSB and had to program to overclock it couple hours later ( we were the first whoot) :) the OCZ is what i own and you can see i overclocked it. The alienware m17 is the Whiteboook

the ASUS does not offer a little extra performance it offers quite a bit more

What about the DDR2 RAM, It kinda disappoints me, but people have told me DDR3 RAM isn't much of a performance booster

nope ddr 2 is the same as ddr 3 since ddr3 latency is high its the same speed really maybe a lil slower but nothing noticable

I think you should wait to see the 4870's in the ocz whitebook. anyway it's really up to you. there are no big differences. asus is bigger and heavier, more expensive, 3xddr2 vs 2xddr3, asus doesn't have extreme cpu's support, asus have much better sound, asus doesn't have a illuminated keyboard, the design of the asus is much better imo and it isn't a fingerprint magnet

but the number of slots does. and a lot. manufacturers should make it with 4 slots :( and to be future proof ddr3 is a must... anyway 8gb max for the ocz (extremely expensive 4gb sodimm ddr3 modules) and 12gb for the asus cheap stuff. with 12gb I could use a ramdisk. I almost bought the asus.

A ram disk is when you allocate a portion of your ram as a really fast hard disk.

yes, but it clears when it loses power, so isn't really an alternative, just good for running some programs really fast (like turbo memory should be)

thanks for the info guys, I guess I'm goin with the w90. But if any has replaced their video cards for the 4870's or 4850's for the matter let me know. Because I would definitely opt for the white book if the video cards can be upgraded.

what about swapping out the ddr3 4870's for the ddr5 4870's (If it's released) would that work with the asus??

no because the Asus uses propriety GPU's for there system unless asus released them specifically for the w90 they would not fit ( if you took m17 gpus that is)
