I am thinking of buying a zepto 6412W -gamer, it looks a very capable laptop but I have quite a few questions i hope you can help me :)

    1. what is the difference between the normal screen and the crystal clear screen is crystal screen glossy? which has the quicker responce time/wider viewing angle?
    2. it the 160GB drive one drive or two in raid configuration? is there any raid option on this laptop?
    3. i want a slot loading DVD drive, i guess i need the "slot in" drive?
    4. can this operate only on AC power? without any battery, just pluged in because i think not being able to do this killed the battery in my current notebook
    5. I have heard from some reviews that the harddrive can be very noisy is this true of all drives, just the slower ones, does anyone have any experience of this?
    6. will this machine be capable of playing UT2007?? ;) any ideas
    7. Is there a longlife or similar battery that would allow for longer runtimes?
    8. Does it have a PCMCIA card slot or a way of directly connecting an external SATA drive as i currenty have a 250GB SATA backup drive with all games music etc and if i could connect it directly it would make my life easier :)

:D i did say i had quite a lot of questions...

    Thanks

    Phil

Also if anyone knows which are the best drivers to install?? dhzeropoint, Omega, laptop video nv go?????

Crystal clear is glossy. In this thread, there are some comparison pics. Search from last page in, it should be around within 5 pages in
One single drive. It is a 14"...no more room ;) .. although watch me get proved wrong here
    Well of course
According to this, yes, but don't expect max settings. You will need to cut back, but yes it'll run...I expect it to look reasonable

P.S. there are several driver threads in this Zepto section, as well as a driver sticky in the graphic card section :)

Let me try the rest... (I believe you mean 6214?)

4: It's possible to run only on AC

5: I got mine with a 60 GB 7200 RPM drive, and there's no noise whatsoever. I've also read some of the complaints so I've been listening intently... Not a sound!

7: I don't believe Zepto has an alternative battery for this model, other than the one it ships with.

8: Sure, it has a PCMCMCMISIIAA (hmmm... That's not spelled correctly...) card slot.

Hope it helps, and anybody should feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

I don't think that's correct, it ships with an express card slot, but not a PCMCIA slot.

thanks :D looks great, the lack of PCMCIA is a little dissapointing as the express cards are more expencive and i already have a sata pcmcia card :(, but the rest of the laptop is just too good to dismiss, i guess i'll just copy files over LAN, 100Mbps should be ok, just have to wait for the memrons to come out so i can order myself a 2Ghz C2D, 2Gb ram, 7200rpm 100Gb hdd in time for Uni :D (hopefully).

Also i need to have a look at the UK keyboard as the ones i have seen so far look odd ;)

Why not get an external firewire enclosure? It should be significantly faster than a 100mbps LAN connection.

well i already have the SATA enclosure and cables and PCMCIA card :D because it is connect to my previous, 17", notebook but for the time it will save, i might as well use lan as It is only going to happen once ;), i wonder if i could connect the two directly together as i think they both have gigabit LAN, but my router is only 100mb

hmm... 6214W or 6615WDis the only difference the screen size? obviously they are different chassis is the GPU and GPU ram at the same clock speeds in both machines, and which runs cooler? (better for OC'ing)

The 6215 has a higher resolution screen so it will be more difficult to run games at its native resolution. According to the UK site the 6215's 7600 runs at 400/750 rather than the 450/700 (which would be better) of the 6215 but all the international sites say its the same so it appears to be just a typo on the UK site. They're the same GPU anyway so you'd be able to clock it to the same speeds if it didn't come at 450/700 (but I'd assume it would), you could ask some people on here what their 6215's GPU came clocked at.

Apart from that, the difference seems to be the integrated digital camera of the 6215 and the few extra optional media upgrades (like an integrated tuner). Then it comes down to size and weight, the 6214 will be much more portable as its smaller, slimmer and weighs less but the 6215 has more screen real estate if that's important to you. Aesthetically I prefer the more "sleek" look of the 14" model but this is subjective.
