I have an Advent notebook and since the day I got it I've had nothing but trouble with using the internet on it. It is a wireless connection and at times for no reason at all the connection will just die on me. I know it's not the router as this is the first out of 4 laptops that I've had a problem with wireless internet with the same router.

It has to be the computer and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to fix the problem. There's something else as well, I'll close the lid on the laptop and leave it on overnight to help download big files but when I close the lid the wireless connection will be cut off right away. I have the power options set to do nothing in any situation and whenever the wireless does go off I have to manually switch the WAN off and on to get it back on.

Pleas help as this is becoming a big annoyance for me.

It seems as if the antenna is not connected properly to your wireless card.
do you know where the wireless card is on your notebook?
there are two antennas which run to the wireless card, the main and the secondary antenna. Both should be connected to the wireless card.
the antennas run through the hinges on your screen, and are usually attached to the top of the lcd monitor. This is why, when you close the lid, your wireless shuts off.
the height of your monitor when opened, is what makes the antenna, when you close the lid, your antenna goes sideways. Or what is happening, is that when you close the lid, the antenna is being pulled off of the main connectors on either the lcd or the wireless card.

    Good luck

Well, you have two options, you can use electircal tape, and tape the wires down to the wireless card, so that they do not disconnect,
or you can take the screen apart, and find the antenna. The antenna, is simply a rosin core wire, which is either soldered to the bracket which holds your screen on, or it is wrapped around a screw somewhere on the inside of the lid.

As far as changing the antenna, I dont know if you can. I think they make usb or antenna extenders, which you can buy, and install in your laptop.

An antenna, is simply a wire which is wrapped around a screw. Once the screw is removed, you have a squigly wire, which conforms to the shape of the screw and looks like one of those corkscrew things.
That should help fix the problem.
If not, then simply leave your laptop lid open.
