I'm looking at the Averatec 3250H1 as a laptop which will be used mainly for school, but I'll probably be playing the odd game on it as well. I'm looking at the specs and I just can't find a better deal out there. What are your opinions on the Averatec series. Would I be wise to go with them?

Your analysis of being a great deal is dead on. We actually have a 3250 in house that we're reviewing and so far things look good. I'll go a step further to say that in the value market, you can't beat Averatec for price and quality.

Is it possible to plug in say a mouse if I wanted to use a full sized mouse instead of the touchpad?

It has USB ports you can plug whatever you want into.

Just FYI I plug a wireless mouse (logitech for laptop) and it works fine: the receiver is plugged in the USB port. And I use wireless WIFI , no problem with the two wireless devices.

If I compare the 32150HX and 3150HW, the WIFI reception has been improved: my wireless Router is only a B and I use the 3250HX in the same way (B) but the performance is better with the 3250HX.

What I appreciate in the 3250HX, it's the 80GB hard-disk: not very fast but very convenient for my use: the DVD burner does a good job.

The only thing I don't like really it's the fact that I have to manually activate the wireless function by pressing the button: not a big deal for sure but if an option in the BIOS will allow to put it as a default, I will very appreciate.

Other thing: a lot of users complain about speakers: it's true they are not the best part but compare to the 3150HW they are better: another time, depends on your needs: for watching movies on travel in a hotel no problem, but on the move in a car forget that.

Would the Averatec 3250H1 be powerful enough to play the odd computer game?

Absolutely, but you'll have to stop short at games like Doom III.

Also, one thing I don't like that I have noticed so far is that is comes with 512MB RAM but that is also the maximum amount that can be installed (At least that's what Circuit City's site states).

I am considering this notebook as well. Especially since Circuit City has it for $899.99. Could this notebook handle Sims 2?

    Hi,

As i don't really know where I can ask my question, I choose here because it's about the averatec 3250H1 I've just bought 3 days ago.

I just want to know if it is normal that my battery life last only 90 minutes?
If not, what can I do to boost the battery life?
I may understand that I need to install some program for that, but where can I find it?

Another question: I went to the averatec website and I noticed at
    http://www.averatec.com/customercare/3200dl.htm

that there is a download for "Windows XP, CPU (Power now driver)". Is it the program I need to boost the battery life?

    Many thanks

    Laya
