I'm having a hard time trying to find drivers for the T60M099 MiniPCI card in my laptop. I think it MAY be a combo 56K/Wireless B card but not sure. I got the laptop second hand and no drivers were installed for the card. Could users of both the AV-18 and AV-18P tell me what model number card you have and if you have both the 56K/Wireless or just the 56K functionality.

Also if anyones got the drivers for this sucker!

Thank You! The Driver worked like a charm! Yeah i figured it was just a modem. I rarely use a modem these days but i'm the kind that wants all my hardware seen and setup and just disable whatever is not needed. I'll probably invest in a combo MiniPCI card, maybe as x-mas present to myself, so i can keep things internal.

Now i just haveto find a replacement for my dying optical drive...

    Gersto,

I've bought an Actius AV-18 back in 2003 and have love it since, but it's growing a little long and slow in the tooth these days. Been thinking of upgrading the hard drive, but the RAMs still maxed at 768 - too low these days.

One question: Can you plug an internal wireless G card into these notebooks? I've been using an external one, but would love to get an internal version. Where would it mount inside the casing?

    Thanks,

    Rick

I've actually been looking around for an internal wireless card myself since mine doesn't have one.

As far as i know you can plug one into the MiniPCI slot found underneath the base. There's an access panel you just need to unscrew on the bottom. If you don't mind losing the 56K modem functionality you can swap the current board out with one from eBay, install the drivers and your set, theoretically.

i would assume just about any minipci card will work but i haven't plunked the money down yet to try.

I've been, unsuccessfully trying to find a combo card with modem and wireless. But the only combos i have seen only have Wireless B, not G.

hey guy i finally got my av18 working and wanted to swap out the modem for an internal wireless card. as far as i know the internal cards do not work unless they have antennas hooked up to them. I have been wanting to do this but i can not find any retrofit antennas. does any one know what the best way is to hookup an internal card to this type of computer? ps i got my laptop bag stolen and my screws to the laptop were in the bag, does anyone know where i can get replacement screws, right now the cover were the mouse is, is loose :( thnks again

They work without them, just not well. I realized that too once I got an Atheros minipci card. had to be darn close to my router to get a decent signal.

I bought a pair of antennae off ebay, think it was $10 or so, and installed it. Was a pain though since i realized it would be best to place the antennae along the inside of the LCD panel. I had to break off a few tabs inside so it would fit.

But a little super glue, some time, and a little bit of cursing They were in and connected. A heckuva signal boost. The only problem i'm having so far is that every once in a while the laptop won't recognize the card after sleep mode or hibernate. A reboot fixes that. It seems fitted but otherwise the card works great for me.

    Hi gersto -

would you mind posting details on the pci wireless card model and antennae you used?

I'm a relative newbie with a Sharp AV-18, and would like to install an internal wireless card...no clue which type to use or what is compatible. Any details would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Sure i used an Atheros Wireless G AR5005. I bought some generic antennae from eBay. Preferably get one with sticky pads and a short head. Not that kind that has a fat head with plates sticking out. Crazy glue works well and can be used to mount the wiring. Just dab the areas and hold the wire for a min or 2. Don't glue the whole wire down. It isn't worth the time and waste.

I lined the antenna wiring along the outer part of the LCD enclosure. You'll just need to remove the front part of the enclosure and break off a few tabs, probably 2 total. You will need to do quite a bit of disassembling of the main unit to line the rest of the wiring to the miniPCI slot. There is a wiring guide built into the case that you can push the wire into to keep it more sturdy.

I no longer have the notebook. Motherboard went bad again so i sold the unit for parts.
