I can't find any review about this new TongFang laptop.
    https://store.illegear.com/extreme-performance/207-illegear-onyx-pro.html
It seems too good good to be true as it is very thin/light and can be configured with a regular laptop RTX 2070 (no max Q).
No other so compact laptop come with a regular RTX 2070, the ones that does are at least 50% thicker/heavier.
So it someone could post a review i would be very interested as i fear about the thermal and I'm skeptic about the viability of the configuration, it must throttle to death.
On the other hand it's so tempting...

It says it is 1.5 kg so that is about 3.4 pounds with 2060 video card. I have seen other laptops with same specs approximately 1 to 1.5 pounds heavier. Larger heatsink and fan due to CPU and GPU.

Sure but i'm talking about the regular RTX 2070 configuration, not the RTX 2060 one (i also know illegear are known to substrract 0.100/0.150 g to the weight but still).

I do not think there is a "full" 2070 or that it but can be properly cooled in this chassis, but it would be great for sure to be proven wrong! There are some video reviews on YouTube but they are unfortunately not in English. There is one review of the 17" model that is in English however and it looks very nice. Hope it comes to the European resellers soon.

Here you have video reviews of the 15" though they are not in English

And here is the review of the 17" version, both text and video
    https://www.tech-critter.com/review-illegear-selenite-pro/

I am also waiting for a proper review of the 15" in English... sofar, it looks fine to me.

The 15" version is also known as Mechanike Machcreator in China and if you use translator, you can find some extensive reviews in Chinese. They reveal that the machine falls short to the Eluktronics Mag-15 / XMG Fusion 15 / Maingear Element / Aftershock Vapor 15 in terms of thermals and performance. Also, the Chinese reviews state that the 15" version weights 1.79 kg

I am considering buying the 15" version if CES 2020 does not reveal something astonishing. Also, the 17-inch version looks not well utilized in terms of space. As if they crammed the 15-inch system into a larger, 17" chassis, and paired it with a larger battery. No improved cooling or anything. It is a pity

Yes as i specified in the title hehe

The Eluktronics Mag-15 / XMG Fusion 15 / Maingear Element / Aftershock Vapor 15 have a RTX 2070 max Q at best and you tell me the TongFang-GK5CP7Y that can come with a full laptop RTX 2070 perform worse ?
It's awful then, no way i buy it but thanks for the info.

Sorry for not being specific enough. The comparison was abou the 1660ti version of TongFang GK5CP6Y not performing as well as the Mag-15

btw, Illegear usually list laptop weight below 100-150g of the original value, so remember to add that up

Cool anyone know if the MAX 17 would work with the Rift S via Thunderbolt adapter to displayport?

Any reviews found for thermals on the 2070 for Max 17?

Max-17 is the larger version of QC7. Max-15 is GK5-Y.

I wasn't clear from earlier posts -- will you be testing the 1660Ti version? It looks like Eluktronics is only selling it in 115W 2060 or 2070 versions, so that's what I'm trying to find more information about.

    No worries

Here is the article review on Illegear Onyx Pro, video review pending
    https://genexisx.blogspot.com/2020/01/review-illegear-onyx-pro-i7-9750h.html

Let me know what you would like to see (eg games), might do some further testing when I go to their showroom next time for Selenite Pro review (aka Eluktronics Max-17, Tongfang GM7CP0P / GM7CP7P)

    @genexis_x
thanks for this great review and especially your focus on the temperatures!
You mentioned the laptop is never silent, even in office-mode and the fans are constantly running? So there is no chance to have a more or less "silent" laptop in idle/websurfing?

about games, would you be able to play CPU-intense games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Assassins Creed Origins/Odyssey or Battlefield V?

Thanks for the review. If you get the opportunity, I'd appreciate some info on the performance difference between 2060 and 2070 models (either Onyx pro or Selenite pro). Most information found on net is based on 80W 2060.

    You're welcome

This laptop is silent while idling. What I'm trying to say is, even you set it to Office mode+silent fans while CPU is under load, the CPU will still perform like in Game/Turbo mode (no change in terms of fan noise and CPU temp+clock speed+power draw). Not sure it's a bug or not though

Sorry but I don't have those games, unless someone can borrow me
Will do. 2060 in this model is 115W BTW (Turbo mode).

    @genexis_x
thanks again for your answer and clarification about the noise.
And about the games, if you have any other games and you have the time and mood to test them, sure, it would be cool to have some "real life" values :)

Would you be able to comment a bit on the difference between the fan profiles? I am mostly interested if the profiles are differently "steep". E.g. if you run a medium load title or a slow paced game with a frame rate limiter, is there any difference in fan noise? I would happily trade temperature (maybe up to 80°c or something) for lower fan noise when playing something in the living room. Happy wife, happy life, you know ;)

    Thanks a lot!

I thought I've stated clearly in the review......anyway:

CPU only load: Game mode and Turbo mode have the same fan curve (will not max out)
GPU only load: same as above
CPU+GPU: I only tested with max fan enabled, however fan noise on auto should be the same as above

Office mode? I suspect there is a bug since it doesn't change anything compared to Game/Turbo mode

When CPU is cooler, fan speed will be lower. When GPU is below 75C, fan speed will be lower also.

Note that different vendors have different naming for these power modes

Can anyone comment what their battery life looks like before and after tweaks? (throttlestop, disabling turbo, battery saver, etc). Need something that can last a good 4 hours minimum after tweaks.

It can last around 7 hrs in Youtube video playback from my testing, even with 2070 GPU

Test settings: Microsoft Edge, 1080p fullscreen, Game mode, volume 36%, brightness 20%, CPU UV -100mV, force iGPU in Nvidia Control Panel, CPU C states normal

Also does the bottom edge dig into your arms? The laptop from Walmart that released last year had that problem where the keyboard was shifted too far from the Palm rest and would dig into my arms.

Did you find the typing experience ok? Would you pick the 2060 over the 2070 variant in your opinion?

Typing feel is good. Since the heat output is about the same (2060 115W), thermals will be similar so no advantage for 2060 model.

If able to afford 2070, go for 2070. If not, 2060
