guys, quick answer... what's you battery score on cinebench r20 and unigine heaven with maxed settings and antialiasing? on my unit is very low, about 1000 points on r20 and 13 fps on heaven
-
Hi man,
I have the vyper 3 17 and recently the performance on battery took a big hit. I was getting over 2600 points in Cinebench r20 and now it's roughly 1000. I checked HWinfo64 and noticed that the power limits are now set to 35W at idle and as soon as use the system it drops down to 5W. Plugged in everything works fine though.
I wiped the drives and did a fresh reinstall of windows but this did not help, maybe it's a windows update that somehow interferes with something ?
I've requested a bios update from PSC, I'm probably getting it on Monday hopefully this resolves the issue. If not I will RMA the system.
1. What are your power limits on battery ? (I had 50W before if I remember correctly)
2. Did you use intel XTU ?Last edited: Sep 20, 2020 -
exactly the reason why i asked here for someone to test... here to my system goes about 1000-1500 points on r20 on battery when in other review on similar laptop it seems to be at about 2000+ points... i noticed that it starts a 2.6ghz (that should be 35w correct gauge) and then drop to 0.8ghz with only 30% cpu load, don't know why. And i think that even gpu is screwed... 13 fps un unigine heaven (i was hoping to about 25 like my older rog with rtx 2070).
So, i think that's something odd with windows or latest bios we had...don't know. -

still waiting for the bios update from PCS -
Is there a way to disable IRST to be able to install ubuntu? Finally got my unit but can't install due to it
-
1 35w (that's a good value to not kill battery when there's load) but i notice that cpu wattage go much lower (like 10w) when there's 100% load and load drops to 34% like it was limited from something.
2 no, i not have xtu, only uv from bios -
Hi,
thanks for your answer. I think the 50W was from an older bios.
I've noticed that if you set the iGPU mode in the bios, the CPU works just fine.
Yeah under load the PL1 and PL2 throttle down to 5W for some reason... I'm trying hard to find the cause and XTU is on my suspect list.
1. So you never used Intel XTU at any point in time on your unit ?
2. Could you please restart your laptop, open HWiFO64 as soon as possible after boot, and check if the PL1 and PL2 are set to 45W and 135W for a few seconds before defaulting back to normal.
That would help a lot troubleshooting the issue.

1= no never used xtu, only throttlestop some weeks ago (but as you know is not a extensive programs on os, not like xtu)
2= i tried (on battery right?) but i was already 35w max
Anyway i have that feeling that the problem was the gpu load that push cpu to throttle heavily... maybe the new wddm that awake gpu to monitor in task manager the temperature wake gpu and our bios see like activity costrinct to loose performance... -
Yeah just delete the IRST drivers or don't install them after a clean windows reinstallation.
-
ok great that means the problem is definably not coming from XTU.
Yes it's probably the dGPU then.
2: Could you try again plugged in please ? Sorry I forgot to mention it. On battery HWiNFO doesn't load fast enough, especially not with that lagging issue. Please also check the min and max values in case the current values updated before you could scroll down to check them.
thanks mate -
2 i had to try...i will update you.
Anyway i asked to pcs if they have newer bios than mine (1.06+ 1.14 ec) and they say to me i have latest one... so for now is like that... -
yeah that's the version I have as well, I tried reflashing it but nothing changed.
ok thanks I'll be waiting
-
i confirm than on mine too is 45-135 for a couple of seconds before come to the real 120-120 of beast mode
-
thanks a lot for your help. I and a few others have wrote a mail to PCS and they said that they are currently working on it.Last edited: Sep 30, 2020

please update me if you have news... if you have telegram you can add me, same nickname as here
-
Yes, I will let you know. I don't have telegram though.
-
nothing right? some user's on 15 inch reported that have a new 1.09 bios...
-
no nothing, they said its gonna take weeks.
-
on pcs forum there's a specific thread about... a moderator 8 october said that they replicate the problem and asked tongfang to a new bios but they will delay a bit cause of some holiday there... so... is just a matter of time for luck. Let me know if you find more when they release it...
-
Hi guys! do you know what each Power modes (Office, Gaming and Beast) implies for the CPU wattage, dGPU, etc? how do you normally use them? many thanks!

Anyone ever heard of updating BIOS/EC firmware causing keyboard and trackpad to go insane? Currently have a Maingear Element 2 2020 (10750H+RTX 2060). Updated to XMG BIOS and now keys give incorrect inputs (example: Tab button now inputs both left and right Shift confirmed by onscreen keyboard). Also the trackpad goes the opposite direction; try to move cursor left and it goes right, and multi-finger gestures and tapping no longer work.

Hi, someone have updated PCS VyperS BIOS using the eluktroniks one? is it working or it cause any issuee? Could you send me the BIOS firmware? Thank you!
-
I'm searching for an Eluktronics BIOS for month, but anyone isn't ready to share apparently,
@Sabishii Hito i think you flash a wrong bios, because GM7MP0P and GM5MP0P are 10875H Only, be carrefull when you flash a BIOS from another Manufacturer -
GM7MP0P is the model # listed on the site: https://www.microcenter.com/product/621984/maingear-element-2-el2-173-gaming-laptop-computer---black.
The entire line uses the same motherboard, BIOS etc the difference is CPU and GPU. -
@Terreos can you contact me if you see this ?
-
The new BIOS is out ! Check the PCS Forum: "VYPER 17 SLOW ON BATTERY"
I don't know if im allowed to share the link here. -
I would be interested in the eluktronics BIOS as well, please let us know if someone finds it.
-
The PL1 and 2 under load is now 25W instead of 5W (35W at idle). I'm getting about 2200 points in cinebench with an undervolt of -50 set in the bios: 400 points less then before the problem occurred or when in IGPU mode.
My 2080 Super Max Q is still pulling power for no reason and the CPU clocks still drop down to 800mHz when I open an installer or an app causing the windows notification sound to lag, distort and stretch.
So not at all a viable fix but still better then before.Last edited: Nov 16, 2020 -
i writed on pcs forum...i have about 1800-1900 points, better than previous 1100 point buf for sure this is not working as they should with again drops to 800mhz every 5 seconds circa. Basically they just delayed the time to drop from 1-2 sec to 5-6 sec but drop are still here
-
Yeah I saw that. Lets keep talking there as there is a representative of PSC reading there.
I've put the laptop trough more testing and restarted it a couple of time and now I have the exacte same problem as you !
During a cinebench run I get random drops in the CPU clocks and lower cinebench results: 1866 points.
So yeah the EC update is pretty much useless... -
i hate that things...i give 3 rma for rog and started here with another ****...
-
Yeah, same here I had 4 RMAs ! This laptop is such a lemon. But cheap !
-
someone know if is possible (and how) to set project aurora for rgb on this laptop?
-
Hi guys! II flashed the new EC 1.18 and for me it worked very well! I passed from 1100 to 2252 Cinebench20 points and I don't have CPU drops anymore. During the test the CPU power is 25W and the cores rise up to 2.3 Ghz, so basically they work like without turbo boost and when the test stopped the wattage go down to 15, but the CPU is using turbo boost up to 4.9 Ghz. No lag, everything is ok except the battery endurance that of course it dropped from 5 hours to 2.5hr (estimated) of web browsing. I tried both turbo mode GamingCenterU+plus max performance in energy save mode or office mode+ better saving battery and I got always 2200/2250 points despite the wattage limit inb Hwinfo64 is different.
FYI: I have 10875H+RTX 2070 Super configuration and 1.06 Bios firmware -
don't know man... we tested all and still drops are here, less than before but are here...my score increased from 1100 points to 1800-1900, much bettr cause drops are more stretched and less deep in terms of time, but is like before... consider that the competitors with 10875h did about 2600-2900 points while on battery, basically double what we have here at the moment
-
Yeah with Bios 1.03 and ECFW 1.18 I'm getting 1700-1800 on battery, still not ideal, and can feel it in x264/x265 export in premiere if it's on battery, nearly doubling export times. I've bunged a message into PCS to see if there's owt that is available.
Anyone tried running the Eluk latest bios on the Vyper chassis? -
waiting for new bios from pcs... but i think need time... no eluk bios, they wont and not let users to share. They can keep theyr crap for his customers, all that secret for a stupid ram tuning section already present in the bios but just hidden. Those guys are so stupid. I will never buy a laptop with a manufacter that not publish bioses or give it to me when i ask them. At least pcspecialist and xmg immediately give the bios if you ask them
-
That's crap, can we not back it up, usually isn't too difficult.
Ram tuning options might be useful though -
don't know... but if you want to tune ram you can still do it on our pcs via xtu cause is totally unlocked for our luck (honestly i not bother to mess with ram to gain 1-2 fps since we are already pretty much gpu limited)
-
Yeah suppose, but honestly can't be bothered with the mess that is XTU, it's just a sh17 show of a piece of software.
I tend to use throttlestop for the bits and pieces I need to be fair.BrightSmith likes this. -
Hi guys, can you help me? I would need bios and ec for
GM7MP0P (vyper 17): could you help me to find them?
Thanks a lot
-
Best bet is to send message to pcs, they are usually happy to help. Just waiting for a bios for mine, they have a new one in testing so waiting for that.
-
GM7MP0P Thank you Ashleigh i'll try: i hope thay will help me even if i didn't buy the pc from them
-
lol i requested the 1.08 bios that come with the vyper of a friend and they say to me they will check with R&D department LOL
-
Got 1.08 installed, Slight uptick in performance from CineBenchR20, but nothing to shout home about to be fair.
CPU Clock's stick to around 2Ghz for the most part, sometimes throttling down to 17xxMhz -
Mind sharing BIOS 1.08?
-
they not send a crap to me... i begin to go crazy with them...
-
When I wander upto laptop again I'll do that

Gdrive as too large to upload, don't go moaning to PCS or anyone if something doesn't go as planned though, your own responsibility etc etc
Please remove all external hard drives from the system before proceeding. Then, to flash the BIOS, please follow the steps below:
1. Power on and tap the F7 key repeatedly as soon as you turn on the system. This will bring up the boot menu.
2. Select USB flash drive from the boot menu and press [Enter] to select this option.
3. This will open the EFI Shell. At the top of the screen, your drives are listed under ‘fs#’, where # is the drive number. Please find the drive number associated with your ‘Removable Drive’, it will be described as a USB Device and should be the bottom most option on the list.
4. Type the following commands, pressing [Enter] after each and substituting the ‘#’ with the relevant drive number.
FS#:
CD PCS
ECFLASH.NSH
the laptop will shutdown and update the EC.
5. Power the system back on and tap the F7 key repeatedly while laptop boots to re-enter the boot menu.
6. Select USB flash drive from the boot menu and press [Enter] to select this option. Type the following commands.
FS#:
CD PCS
FLASHME.NSH
the laptop will shutdown and update the BIOS.
***NOTE***
After the flash, if the unit locks up, do not worry. Just wait for a minute and restart the system through the power button
***NOTE***
9. Power the system back on. It will display a message that ‘First Boot Conditions have been found’ and ‘CMOS Defaults have been loaded’. Press the Enter key and the laptop will restartNerull87, gieffe22 and Sabishii Hito like this.
