I had nothing better to do today, so I decided to take my laptop apart and show you guys how to clean it.
Hope you like it. Let me know what you think of it!

Someone make this thread sticky!
I just followed Ubercam's guide and switched the thermal compound in my 6130 with the Arctic Silver 5.
Although there isn't any appreciable difference, I do suppose it has been beneficial to my laptop, (probably dropping the CPU temp by a few degrees)
Thanks Uber! -
Another request to sticky!

This guide is awesome. Actually there have been changes to my system. Before I cleaned out the OEM thermal grease, the computer's fan would increase in speed whenever I went into folders on my harddrive. Now it stays in the lowest fan speed setting when I do the same. Running intense 3D games no longer cause my computer to run extremely hot and to lockup/shutdown. Change the grease, you won't regret it.
BTW, I used Arctic Silver 5, the best thermal compound on the market. www.arcticsilver.com
Amazing stuff!![]

Wow thanks for the sticky.
I had nothing to do one day. I would recommend the plastic bottle caps under the outer back feet though! It's free, more portable than those silly laptop coolers and all you need is just a bit of elevation off the ground and it works great. Also its a bit more comfortable for typing since it's slightly angled. It makes the dusting job last so much longer too! I've been using it for about 3 weeks now and its been fine, playing games like Generals and Vice City every day almost for 2 weeks straight.
Good luck with your cleaning.

Edit: My friend's computer that is hosting my site has stopped working for an indeterminate amount of time, and he's here with me in Germany... site's unreachable. We don't know what's going on, so until we figure it all out, the file is not available, sorry!

I followed the instructions and cleaned mine yesterday. What a difference! The fan doesn't even switch to high speed when playing games anymore. I couldn't find Arctic Silver here in Anchorage, but used Fanner 700 instead. It seemed to work fine. I bet anything is better than the crap that was on there from the factory. I was especially surprised by the amount of dust that was trapped in the fan area. I had thought the airflow seemed restricted and now I know why. I can see myself cleaning that out about every six months.
Thanks for the great photos and tutorial. -
Good news, the PDF is back online!

Before I try to clean , i need help with connecting to internet.
I am using my other pc to try and download net adaptor 1394 but everytime i try to download it automatically goes to the google home page. Even when I try to do windows update it goes to the google home page.
It did it with my Toshiba 6100 before the net adaptor went missing and now with my other laptop. Help...
I was able to download and connect to windows update for at least a year until last month.
Thanks
