I have an external USB sound card while keeps flicking on and off. As far as I can tell it's to do with an issue in power with my USB ports. Nothing seems to be wrong with the sound unit itself.

What's going on? Is there some way I can configure the power my USB uses?

I know of two places where you can adjust USB power properties:

    1. In Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus controllers, check the power properties for each USB root hub. There's an option to turn off the hub to save power.

    2. (For Vista, may not be in XP), in the advanced properties for your Power Plans there should be USB Settings option. Make sure selective suspend is not enabled.
