Greetings from users Compal in Russia.
The document is written , the process of updating must add keys
    /x /mode=3 /bbl /pf=cmos
All, except /pf=cmos already in *. bat file. Say can I when you update the BIOS 122B, add it? There may be problems?

omg i just got rid of the overheating problem!
because i work over the street from the shop where i bought my HEL80 - i went there. loaned new fan and heatsink just in case and tryid it.

    before:

    idle 60-70C
    full load ~95C

    after

    idle 42-45C
    full load ~72C

    :D :D :D :D :D :D
    JEEEPIIIIIIII

so at very same time when i upgraded my bios - the cooling somesort of died! it wasnt bios fault.

Previously, like, after the completion of updating the BIOS, laptop shutdown and automatically run? After 123B, just shutdown. This is as it should be?

So, what has changed with the new bios? For my EL81, it didn't make any changes at all, except the new version number. :) Maybe they just combined the Vista BIOS and v1.22 and re-released them as a new single bios?

First i would like to say great thread and thanks for the work you guys are doing.
Second i would like to say that the bios update is the scariest bios update i ever have done. The constant beeping scared the **** out off me. I have updated the bios on at least 100 machines and never been so scared.

Now i have the 123B bios and the laptop seems a little more responsive and almost no fan noise. And the machine feels a lot cooler. I upgraded from 114.

    Hi everybody

THANKS FOR THE 123B BIOS FILE!!!

I had a 106B bios and upgrade to 122B, then my laptop started overheating, mostly because the fan would spin too late to be able to cool the CPU down.
    I've tried installing Slamd64 (64-bit slackware port) and for some inexplicable issue, the HD transfers were like 3Mb/s (after hdparm -c 1 -m 16 -a 16 /dev/hda)
I've update to the 123B bios from this thred and the fan now seems to be working fine
I've just finished installing BlueWhite64 (another 64bit port, cause I got the DVD from home) and will run some tests...

    I'll report later

    Compal EL-80 Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz

It seems all the download links are dead. I'm currently using 116b but I'm trying to switch to 123b. Can anyone provide me a working link for 123b?

    Thanks in advance.

For all having problems with overheating HEL80.
My HEL80 was shutting down due to overheating. I tried upgrading to newer bios serveral times, no luck. Dismanteled fan + heat sinks and cleaned it, no luck. Ideling at 50 deg. C. Shutting down at 90 deg. C on heavy load.
Took the vacum cleaner hose and had a serious attack at vents underneeth. Now Ideling at 35 deg. C, no shutdown problem.
    Just my two cents.

How long did you have your lap? Is it suggested maintenance to open the lap every two months?

I for one have had my lap since birth :D

Cleaning intervals will depend on how dusty the environment is. The best way to know when it is time to clean it is when you see those temperatures going up. For some it could be every couple of months, and others maybe every 6 months.

However blowing out the fan intakes and exhaust vents can be done every few weeks or once a month, and then opening it to clean the heat sink can be done every several months once you notice the temperatures going up.

Hahahaha, good remark, were you born with a headset and ipod as well?

Do you recommend those bases with fans to cold down the laptop? I used one once and it didn't make a big difference.

    No, those came later :)

I do not recommend laptop coolers for any models we sell because the built in cooling systems are sufficient. However some people really like them.

I tested my notebook to see what's the highest temp i can get with it.
CPU is going up to 88C and the GPU is around 81C.
This is the with full loaded apps and drivers.
It seems to be fine even when it's running with these temps for more then 2hrs.
So far so good, will try to get the OC up for the GPU and see what this will do.
The GPU can be OC to 675@475 with no issue, but higher will result in artifacts and final locks the notebook.
THe temp for 675@475 is when running a game like COD4 81C.

What do you do when the laptop locks, how do you set the previous parameters if the laptop is locked?

Well, I guess you are referring to clock down on the booting menu, after you do del or F12, whatever, not all booting menus give you the ability to down clock.

At least mine doesn't I think, I'll check next time.

When I updated to 123B, my laptop would come and go out of 'stand by' when ever it feels like it.

I reverted back to 116B and everything is fine.

I looked over the forum and I guess the census is that 116B is the best BIOS out there.

For some reason my EL80 isnt showing the cdrom in bios, and I cant boot from it, yet it shows up just fine in windows. And on top of that, I'm running xp-64bit, so none of the windows bios update programs work. Any ideas?
