    Is there a way to get my cpu and video card to underclock themselves automatically when running on battery power?

    You can use a utility like Notebook Hardware Control to do the CPU part.

    I'm not sure about the utility that Chrisyano mentioned, but I know that RMclock will both underclock/undervolt as well as give you tempurature among other information in your tray (if you turn it on).

    Technically, your video card is already underclocked while in "2D' mode. So unless you are directly running 3D applications you are already skimming the battery core and memory speeds back to pretty much nill.

    :::NOTE:::
    Windows vista has AERO or GLASS.. This is 3D hardware enabled.. which means you will drain the life out of your battery very quickly if this feature is enabled.

    I cant seem to get the CPU to run at anything less than 100%, I set all the settings to maximum battery but its still running at max speed. I'm using NHC .. any ideas?

    In the CPU Speed tab, you select any of the setting in the pull-down menu under A/C power. The "Current CPU settings" at the bottom of the window should immediately reflect the change in voltage.

    Try the tab to the left of CPU voltage.
