    Hi CaseMauder,

Check my review on Prestigio 1590W built on excellent Uniwill 259EA1 barebone. Maybe it helps. Check my signature. :)

    Cheers,

It depends very much on whom and how builds it for you, which service you get or how well you can manage the laptop yourself. They have really good price per performance. However, my impression is that the quality is not regular and there are many half-defective units which the final assemblers are still trying to sell around. I got my normally working unit only after two replacements and a lot of time and emotional energy spent. I don't think I would like to go through it second time. On the other hand, my reseller was saying that it is only me who had so many troubles with the laptop.

    Thanks!!

It seems to me the lightest weight 15.4 screen Pentium M Gameing
notebooks with a go 6600, are the Asus Z71v and the Uniwill 259, oem.
I tend to go with the Nvida card, but I would go ATI X700 also. or higher.

    Any other suggestions?

The Uniwill comes with a go 6600 256 which is nice,

And it supports MXM if we talk about the same barebone (259). Meaning you can take out your graphic card and replace it with the better when the time comes. That is the big advantage for notebooks.

    Cheers,

You might also want to consider the Quanta KN1-PM as a nicely balanced system. It outperforms the z71v because the z71v's 6600 is underclocked, and it's both lighter and gets longer battery life than the Uniwill 259.

The Quanta is also MXM, BTW.

    Great replies, helping alot!

I also like the Quanta SD-MW1 PM, a 15.0" with a go 6600 128, 100gig 7200 HD, and the layout of the ports and DVD seem perfect for my office.
DVD on the left, and the ports on my mouseing side.
The case looks blocky and reminds me of a 50's car fins a little, but that's ok with me.

Thinking mabe the 15" screen is better for UT and UT2004. The 15" is lighter and has a smaller footprint than the 15.4. I'm used to watching DVD's on my CRT full screen, so that would look the same.

I haven't seen a review yet or anyone mention it.

Let me know if anybody has a good take on it.

UT2004 supports most widescreen resolutions as well as all standard aspect ratio resolutions. That being said, UT probably doesn't support widescreen.

The MW1 is a very nice system as well; it's also an MXM system, and its GPU is clocked slightly higher than the KN1's. I almost chose it at the time I was shopping for systems, and in retrospect I kind of miss standard aspect ratio screens. I also personally think that 1400x1050 is the ideal resolution. Finally, I've also been told that the MW1 has the same excellent Quanta build quality as the KN1, so I think it's a good choice.

    ABS's Mayhem G4 is a Uniwill 259, with a go 6600 256mb.
The fastest and biggest hard drive they say it suports is a 80 gig 5400.
If it suported a 100gig 7200 HD, I think I might have gone for it.
The choke point on these Pentium M systems with a good graphics card seem to be the HD.

I still need to find out about the Quanta SD- MW1 PM. I think I'd go with
a faster HD over the extra 128mbs on the go 6600 256mb.

    Flanken,
you and IKovac wrote good reviews, I got a good sense of what to look for now.

    Ice-Tea,
that explains where ABS got a go 6600 256mb, MXM.
    The MXM link is usefull

    Flanken,
thanks for the comeback on the MW1 standard aspect ratio screen.
I think thats the way I might go. Is the MW1 a matte?
    I can't tell.

Yes, it's a matte. If the KN1's is any indication of quality, it's probably a pretty good one at that.

    You bet, Thank you!

The more I think about the 15.0", It's more what I'm looking for. Smaller the better, with a gameing card.

I can't find any good reviews of the MW1. Lots of market speak.
    I'm looking.

As it is, I've only found snippets of MW1 reviews on the web. Here are a few you might want to see:

    http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=105941

    http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=103500

    http://www.powernotebooks.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1985.

Overall, it sounds like a very nice system. It has one of the fastest 6600s I've read about. The grumbling about the short battery life might not be true anymore, as ISTNC and a few other places now sell the MW1 with the 9-cell battery, not the 6-cell.

Heh. After firing up my old Toshiba tonight, I kind of miss the 15" standard-aspect screens. Maybe I should've gotten an MW1.
