Hi,
I have a Compal HEL80 notebook with an Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 CPU and LifeView LR535 mini PCI-e TV tuner.
I have purchased an second hand CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 (because it supports VT, T5500 doesn't) and a new TV tuner mini PCI-e Avermedia A306 (because LR535 doesn't work in Linux nor Windows XP x64).
I've upgrade my BIOS from 114B to 123B without problems. With T5600 CPU my laptop doesn't boot, only power-on and batt charge lights are on and CPU fan is moving a few seconds at boot but nothing happens after: no sound, no HDD movement, ... I've gone back to T5500 and everything works fine. Is it a problem with T5600 CPU or BIOS doesn't recognize it?
Also with the Avermedia TV tuner it doesn't recognized at hardware level: it not appears in Hardware Devices in Windows XP nor "lsusb" nor "lspci" in Linux) so I cannot install any driver.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for all.

Hi again,
concerning CPU upgrade I have read that clear or reset CMOS maybe help to notebook boots with it (and possibly it recognizes TV tuner).
What's your opinion?
Thanks. -

Yes take out the CMOS battery for a few mins.
I have had the same problem and that fixed it.
Another thing you can try:
1. Take out the battery and power cord.
2. Hold the power button for 30 secs.
3. But the battery and power cord back and try to turn it on.
About the TV tuner, some miniPCIe ports are only wired up with a PCIe lane, and some only have the USB pins wired up. Make sure the TV tuners use the same pins, i.e. they either are both PCI devices or both USB devices.
I believe the reason for the tv tuner not working is because of BIOS whitelisting. Hotplugging the device could avoid the whitelisting.
So to recap, the solutions are:
Take out the CMOS battery to get the CPU to work.
Hot plug the tv tuner to avoid BIOS whitelisting. -
Hi,
I have tried to take out main battery and power, and hold the power button for 30 secs but nothing happens.
I'm trying to find out where's the CMOS battery. Some posts indicates that it is near bottom hard disk (see attachment "near_hdd.jpg") but I think that this "device" isn't CMOS battery. Also I've seen something simmilar to a small button near RAM banks and tv tuner (see attachment "near_tuner.jpg"). In this last case the extraction should be more difficult.
I've searched in dissasembly guide but I haven't find out where is the CMOS battery.
Thanks.Attached Files:

neither are the CMOS battery.
Take the notebook apart fully, it should be on the motherboard. -
I just found the next thing apparently also works in order to reset the CMOS without having to disassemble the entire notebook:

What do you think?
Thanks. -

yes, that will work.
I have the same thing in my notebook. -
Hi again,
I managed to clear CMOS without removing the battery but with the new processor I'm still having the same problem: when I turn on the notebook the lights shine only power and battery and the CPU fan only moves initially. After that, silence, no noise or anything on the screen.
I surrender, I do not know what to do and am not certain whether the processor that I have sold really works or not.
Next I'm trying the tv tuner troubleshooting hot-plugin it. I'll give you the results ...
Thanks. -

be carefull with the hotplug, I haven't tried it myself.
So I cant tell you how safe it is.
