Post your upgrades for the xmas. Planned, ordered/bought or on the wishlist, doesnt matter, just post it here.

    Heres mine:
    ordered:
    Hitachi 7K200 200GB 7200rpm 16mb cache

    Planned:
Mouse, not shure wich of them yet, pending between a SideWinder, a MX Revolutions and a G9, but most likely leaning towards the SideWinder cos I get a QcK Mousemat with it and its the cheapest of them all

    Wishlist:
Surround Headset, Razer Barracuda or Sharkoon Majestic 5.1 III

    :rolleyes2:

I'm with you on the harddrive...

Planning on a Passive heatpipe cooler (still searching for one) and
a new trackball (already have one but needs replacing).

Of course if Zepto came out with a Fan Control for the Bios I'd
like someone to put that under the tree as well!

I'm not gonna change my HDD until SSDs go down in price... :) I think it's meaningless to change a HDD to another HDD these days, when there's a new technology.
Of course, if you need more GB, it's the only way :)

    What's the price on the 7K200 ?
If there really is a big difference in performance, i'll maybe buy that one. But after seeing CLB-NLs post about this HDD, I'm not so optimistic... I don't think there's much difference :?

Hehehe, by the time SSDs come down in price we'll be celebrating the
    seasons in space! :)

...actually I hope a 100+gb becomes affordable within a couple of
    years...

    180€ ? Wow ? more expensive than I thought

You HAVE to do a test and a little review, so that I can see if it's worth it :D You may end up convincing me to buy one

Haha your list is cool :D

I've already have that for two weeks! Early X-mas present :p

I Have a VX Revolution, that's the best notebook mouse there is!!

    This has not convinced you?

A good review of the Hitachi Travelstar 7K200!

Speaking of power, the 7K200 is not only the fastest 2.5" 7,200 RPM drive, it is also the most energy-efficient. The first generation Travelstar 7K100 required up to 3.8 W with the UltraATA/100 interface or as much as 4.6 W using SATA/150 (which should make clear that the serial high-speed connect has a significant power disadvantage). Seagate’s Momentus 7200.2 staying below 3.8 W is already a good result that the Travelstar 7K200 can beat: we measured a maximum power consumption of only 3.2 W. This is only slightly more than the maximum power requirements of a typical 250 GB 5,400 RPM drive. The idle power requirement of 1.1 W for the Travelstar 7K200 is also a huge improvement over previous generations, which required up to 1.7 W (Momentus 7200.1).

    And

Things are a bit different in the 7,200 RPM high-end. Hitachi did what it wanted and took the crown for providing the fastest mechanical notebook hard drive available today. Its access times are equal to those of Seagate’s Momentus 7200.2, but the Travelstar 7K200 delivers clearly faster transfer rates. Yet it doesn’t consume a lot of power: it shines with power requirements that are at least 30% below those of the aged Travelstar 7K100, and still more efficient than the Momentus 7200.2. The only drive that comes close is Fujitsu’s MHW2160BJ, but it has a maximum capacity of 160 GB.

Waiting for SSD is very weird imho... A Dell XPSM1330 with a 160GB 5400rpm'er costs about 1200,-
    A Dell XPSM1330 with a 64GB SSD HD, costs about 2000,- (And I'm talking about Euro's) Thats :-s

Yeah I know I'm gonna wait a long time for SSDs to drop in price. But I think around Montevina in Q2 2008 we'll sea cheaper SSDs.

    Or is that too soon?

Really haven't got a clue about SSD!

I'm gonna buy the 7" Asus Eee PC and that has a 8GB SSD HD!
I will see if that's faster/ quicker or whatever.. Doesn't matter to me!

And 2 HD-Tune benches from myself, right after eachother:

    I'd like the Fujitsu S6510 with a WXGA+ display.

Unfortunately, that might have to wait for Xmas 2008 while Fujitsu or someone else works out that 14.1" WXGA doesn't have much to offer over 13.3" WXGA unless they add some more pixels.

Santa gave me a Logitech VX Nano mouse. :)

It is a good companion for my 6024W because the receiver can go into the USB port on the right side where anything bigger in that port gets in the way of the mouse.

It will also make a good companion for my Sony G11 because it has up / down buttons which I have changed to Page up and Page down, so easier navigation on the G11 which lacks dedicated PgUp and PgDn keys.
