I want to rant with alot of curse words and stuff but I have to remember I got my CT15-A2 for like 600 bucks so I can't complain. But it sucks because whoever sold me my first A2 on amazon is going to get screwed because they will have to give me back 1250 and the computer is used and now worth even less.
I don't understand the point to have a price drop on something you can't even get. Vizio just give up on computers you failed pretty bad on this launch, nobody is looking for this computer. There was one on ebay the one I bought for 600 bucks and nobody even bought it for days page had like 40 views.
This and crappy windows 8 is just a nightmare. How do some of you feel that paid full price.

So you believe that a company has no right to change the price on a product after the first person has purchased it? Say components get cheaper, sales are low, or they see a competitive opportunity, tough luck because one entitled person who has already been enjoying their product might be upset? Come on man, you talk like you have plenty of money to throw around to buy multiple computers on a whim, so I doubt this is your first rodeo when it comes to consumer electronics and you should know better.

What price drops are you talking about? I just checked their site, walmart and samsclub and they all looked the same to me. $600 for a ct-15 would be a steal though.
I did see that they have some easter eggs in place for when people upgrade their machines to windows 8 though. No specifics. -
In 30 days I mean come on

To think I came on this site and find nothing but false news.
You got a $1,249 MSRP laptop for $600? Please show us. Until then it is all here say. I know someone that won one for free. Are you going to rant that yours should be free too? There are no CT15-A2 50% off anywhere. If theres a prive drop then show us the links. Slickdeals.net and other sites only mention $100 off the 14 inch. -
My guess is that Vizio sells appliances (TVs) at walmart primarily so people treat these more as appliances. I can say that ive returned 4 zenbooks and 2 samsung series 9s in my quest for an ultrabook and the surprising unit that delivers turns out to be the ct-14-a0. Definitely a surprise but ill take it. -
mike2789 - I believe the person who started this thread was referring to the price drop from $1249 to $1149 for the CT15-A2 (personally, I'm more than happy with my CT15-A2 and think the month+ of use I've gotten out of it was worth having paid $100 more - it was already by far the best value I could find). They've also posted here previously about finding a CT15-A2 on ebay for $600 so that's where that price is coming from.

Yes I was talking about how vizio screwed up this launch because on ebay for 4 days there was a ct15-a2 USED!!! for 600, actually it was less I just paid 600 because I didn't want to wait for the auction to end. The reason for this is because nobody even knows about this computer because vizio probably doesn't want very many people reviewing it. Either way the A1 and A2 on models drop the A1 which I owed was 999 drop to 899 and the A2 was 1250 dropped by 100 also and SOMEHOW THE A-0 IS ACTULLY MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE A1 WOW.
ANYWAY ONLY KEEPING THIS COMPUTER because i got it for 600 and because there is nothing else and windows 8 is gonna suck.
Pretty much going to switch to mac when windows 7 gets old on me. PC's are trash and I see it now. -
The lack of press about the new Vizio notebook is just the way vizio works, they don't spend gobs of money on advertising. They mass market through sams/walmart release products at trade shows and let the price/performance of their products sell them. Its how they got so popular in the TV industry and they are applying the same methodology to their new PC business.
For ALL products the new and used markets are different. You got your ct15 a2 for $600 used on ebay... great deal. But the masses aren't going to buy on ebay so the deal you got really has no relevence to a discussion on vizios pricing.
You might like apple, they make great products. Im a developer and had a macbook pro for 18 months... all I can say is it was the most unproductive 18 months of my life. Great product, gee wiz cool, but between the case slitting my wrists and the blasted minimalist keyboards I just couldn't get anything done on it. Went back to PC and am much happier. Your experience may differ.
heres an FYI about PC prices... they always drop after release... HP even has 300-450 off coupons on new products the week they launch. Also, this is vizios first run at doing PCs so they are bound to make price adjustments once they see how they are selling and where they are positioned against the competition in the market. Buying new products at full price is the price you pay for being an early adopter. When the Toshiba z835 came out it was $899 and yet you can get it now at best buy for $750 and you could get it for $699 a few weeks ago... guess what, prices change and do so often its just a fact of the PC industry.
If you want stable (inflated and high but stable) prices look at macs as they rarely go on sale and often don't have closeouts. Its a different world, apple refreshes their products annually while the PC market is much more fluid with new products coming out and older products adjusting prices to stay competitive all the time. -
And I understand PC prices drop all the time these are on machines that are overpriced and available. The vizio is neither. It is still hard to get one so what sense can of make to drop the price. If its sold out then it must be a hot item.
The difference is a these other brands would sell in minutes at half price. I could put it up again and I bet nobody would buy it. I'm sorry but vizio messed up this launch bad.

The front edge of the unit where you rest your wrists has a very sharp edge that would cut into my wrists while typing (there are youtube videos on how to file down this edge so many people had this problem). This made it uncomfortable to work on for any length of time. Also I could never get used to the lack of some keys (dedicated delete and backspace keys instead of a delete that worked like a backspace only) and placement of others on the mac keyboard (most notably ctrl). Combined these made the macbook pro VERY unproductive for me. It was so 'cool' I still tried to make it work for a year and a half. In the end it had to go.
Im not sure where you are located, but around here the vizio is plentiful. Every walmart in town carries the 14" and has it in stock and every sams has the 15". So id say they are quite plentiful
The thing about pricing is that all of the ultrabooks out right now have a limited window of time to sell in... windows 8 is coming and all of them will be getting a refresh. Different makers handle it differently, some didn't make alot so they are hard to find others discount the price. In vizios case they are looking for the sweet spot where it sells well and is profitable.
When i got my 14" it was $641 online but only stayed at that price for 2 days and now its back up to 798. It wasn't a closeout sale, just seeing if they would move alot of units at that price. They did, and it got their inventory down to where they wanted it so the price went back up. Its nothing unusual for walmart at all to do this.
I read an interview over on the verge or maybe engadget with vizio when they first launched their new computers, and the marketing plan they lay out in the interview is exactly what they have done. I wouldn't say they screwed it up at all. You can argue how successful its been but they did pretty much what they set out to do with their initial releases.
When you look at the competition that have been doing computers for years, vizio looks pretty damn good.
Asus, supply issues, backlight bleeding that gets worse over time, fan issues, adata vs sandisk ssd issues.
Samsung, over priced, slow ssd (sandisk) and extremely limited wifi ranges due to duraluminum cases.
Toshiba, screens with so little structural support that many have cracked the lcd while simply opening the units.
Then theres Vizio... touchpad can be irratic until you install an updated driver, keyboard not backlit or island style.
You would think the new guy in town would have the most problems but thats just not the case. I went through 4 asus zenbooks and 2 samsung series 9s before getting my vizio. The vizio is just more solid and less issue ridden than the big players.
IMO the big players tried too hard to beat the macbook air and ended up not being the best PCs in the process. Vizio just tried to make a solid PC first. Its 1/2 pound heavier but ill take that over the issues ive had with others. -
Amazon is selling the CT14-A0 for $598..I guess that is a sale more so than a price drop though.
-
So you can get an ultrabook with a 15" IPS 1080p screen for 799. Thats a pretty good deal.
I got my ct14-a0 for $641 a few weeks ago and have been quite happy with it.
My guess is they are starting to clear the warehouses a bit. Refreshed models for Win8 will be coming in a couple months. -
-
Personally, id rather have a 14" 1600x900 than a 13.3 1366x768. But hopefully the next gen hardware will bring higher screen resolutions with it.
VIZIO Screwing all it's customers again. PRICE DROP
