While checking my video driver version, I noticed that mine is 7.15.10.9735. I remembered reading that the averatec website has driver version 100.65. When After I downloaded the driver, I unzipped it and clicked the setup app. The driver preceded to load until the nVidia screen popped up. Then I got this error message:

Setup detected the the operating system in use is not Windows Vista. This setup program and its associated drivers are designed to run only on windows vista. The installation will be terminated.

Has anyone ever seen this error before?

Is there any way to correct it?

    Thanks for your help!

    Kris-

Can't remember- you ARE running Vista, correct? If you are still running XP, the Vista driver isn't going to work; you would need to load the XP video driver from Averatec's site.

Assuming you are running Vista, I recommend first installing the lastest chipset driver from nVidia's support site (nForce 430 w/o integrated video) first (last I checked, this was version 15.01). Then reinstall the Vista video driver from Averatec's site.

I will also suggest that I have had almost no driver issues what so ever with the above running on the Everex R1.09 firmware (search this site).

Yes I am running vista. I updated my chipset driver from the nvidia site. then i reinstalled the video driver and still got the same error message. I wish there was a complete list of of all the links for vista averatec drivers since the averatec isn't reliable.

Are you suggesting that if i change my bios to everex R1.09 I may not have these problems? Do you know a link where i can download this firmware?

Thank you for all your help.

no need to change your BIOS..you may ruin something else incorrectly. If you are sure you are running Windows Vista version. The Microsoft update should take care of your video driver automatically, keep using manual microsft update, will work, it will find your driver for your video card for sure. Let me know your exactly modem of your averatec type, I may able to find what you needs or where to download your driver, then I will send you the link..
Have you try go to www.driverguide.com .

    Hi Kris & hksports99 -

Kris you have a 2300 series, correct? Then contrary to what hksports99 says, you MUST use the Vista video driver from Averatec's site*. This driver supports more than just the video chipset. The video Function keys built into your keyboard, as well as detecting the open/close actions of the lid are dependent on the video driver. If you use driver versions from either Microsoft (via update) or from nVidia directly, you WILL lose functionality.

*as an alternative, you should also be able to use the driver located on the Everex web site for the StepNote ST5340T. This notebook is actually using the same chipset and is manufactured by Twinhead (FIC) the same as the Averatec 2370.

As to BIOS firmware - trust us. The version R1.05 last released by Averatec has problems with Vista. The above Everex model is using version R1.09 and a lot of frustrations with your Averatec will disappear. I doubt the use of the Everex BIOS firmware on your Averatec is fully legal under current copyright laws, but Averatec has obviously refused to obtain and post this firmware for its machines. As to where you can get it - do a search on this forum for the download links.

You will need a copy of WinRAR to decompress and reassemble the file fragments (the trial version will do), and you will need to download the R1.05 BIOS flash utility from Averatec, create a bootable drive (I think using a USB floppy drive is easiest), and substitute the above Everex firmware file for the Averatec firmware file.

I personally am not proud that I am using the Everex BIOS firmware, but I sure do like my Vista notebook.
