    Hi everyone,

I have had 2 Averatec 5400's over the years and have had good experiences with them as well as Averatec support.

I am interested in putting Vista on the 5400 that I still have. I remember checking a while ago on Averatec's website for Vista drivers, but obviously there was only XP ones since the laptop is too old.

Recently, Averatec's website has changed (sold to TriGem) and they have removed ALL driver downloads and support pages for older models (as far as I can tell).

I know that for things like the wireless card, updated Vista drivers are probably available on the manufacturer's website (like Ralink). However, without the XP drivers showing me which specific wireless card and video card are in the machine, I don't know where to look for Vista drivers.

Has anyone here had success putting Vista on a 5400 or similar model? I'm sure that the wireless card will work, so I am more concerned about the video driver to get the right screen resolution.

    Thanks!

I went ahead and installed Vista and thought I would post what I found. I ran the Vista Upgrade Advisor and it said everything would work except the graphics card.

I installed Vista, then downloaded the Ralink driver. That got wireless working. Then I did the updates. At this point, to get everything in Device Manager recognized, I installed the VIA universal chipset driver for Vista, the XP graphics card driver, the XP modem driver, and the XP touch pad driver.

This got everything working fine and it runs Vista OK. If anyone has any questions, just PM me or post here!
