For some reason the UPEK Fingerprint reader software will not allow me to scan my finger.
When scanning my finger the UPEK software control center should show, but for some reason the screen goes black and returns without any action.

I use the fingerprint to scan my finger to login on forums or other websites with the option to store my login name and password.

    Hi, how are you doing?

Very strange, unless the OS doesn't call the driver anymore, it could be a bad connection.

When I pass my finger through the sensor it shows a fingerprint picture and says "bad quality", but I don't care because I haven't set it up yet.

Well it works when I need to login to windows, but when the OS is loaded the screen goes black when scanning my finger.

Is this a recent issue or has this always happened with SP1?
Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling UPEK? It may fix something if you've recently updated to SP1.
I haven no issues with vista business x64 SP1 and protector suite ql.

It's weird because the 32 nits driver worked like a charm for the short time I had Vista SP1 installed.

That's why I think it could be a bad internal connection. Some times we open the laptop for other reasons and move a cable around without noticing it.

Thx for the support so far, but the cable is connected correct, believe me I know.
The other parts is very strange but the software isn't allowed for some reason to open the control center, this is caused after installing sp1.
I will do a clean installation and then I will reconfigure all the software and see what the result will be.

sounds like a reinstall will fix it then.
Are you going to reinstall windows or just the software?

A side question, can you use it to log in on your laptop? If yes, how?

yes the login works fine with windows vista, but for some reason it will not allow me to login to websites, like NBR.
The fingerprint software is saving the username and password, so by just simple scanning your finger it will login to example NBR, in my case the screen goes black say 5/10 sec and then retruns without any action.
This stopped working after some software update's.

How do you setup the laptop login, someone has asked me that question, and you know that I'm not using UPEK, I have so many passords to take care of that I don't want to get preocupied with my fingerprint as well.

Simple registration is done once and the rest is simple, just follow the software options and check them out.
