    I just bought a new Vizio CT15-A1, I've updated everything in windows 7 and the few computer drivers updates. The problem I'm having is with the fan, it keeps cycling on and off every 20 second with lite internet searching, I click on something with little to no bandwidth and it kicks on then off, I watch a youtube video and back on again, I use a non intensive application and back on again. I would say 20-30 seconds on then the same thing off. Its getting pretty annoying,what is the fix to this?

    what are your temps when doing light browsing. i'm curious
    i have ct 15 a2 with itunes mozilla and ie running with an average of 9 tabs per browser

    using CPUID to measure

    Mine are +/- 5 degrees C
    thrm 44
    core 0 40
    core 1 42
    package 43
    Toshiba 31

    I would check the Task Manager to see what the cpu load is. It could be that another application is using the cpu.

    You can run Task Manager by pressing CTRL+Shift+Esc or by typing it in the Win 7 start menu.
    After you run it, go to the performance tab and see what your average cpu load is, and see how it changes when you run applications. High cpu usage leads o higher fan usage.

    I'm having the same issue with my ct14-a4 running windows 8. Updated all drivers and the like but I still notice every 20s-1min the fan tuns on when I'm not even doing anything except browsing with 1 tab open.
    I have it sitting on my lap so maybe that's the problem though it happens frequently when its just on the desk as well.
    CPU load doesn't go past 40% and averages like 5-10% so I cant see how the CPU is being overworked. Gonna download coretemp and see how temps look but still kinda pist right now about this fan.

    same is happening to me recently, the fan keeps coming on, its pretty annoying....i noticed my temps are higher than normal, my core CPU temps average at 50 Celcius measured with CPUID

    i bought this thinking i would never hear a fan

    Contacted support about this and they gave me the standard "this is how its supposed to be sorry if it inconveniences you" reply. Anyone try any undervolting or tinkering with fan speeds.? I have tried Speedfan to no avail. Im starting to regret buying this thing cause it winds up every minute in class which is really quite annoying not to mention embarrassing.

    EDIT: one quick fix I found, under control panel go to Hardware Settings > power options > change plan settings > change advanced plan settings. Then under Processor Power Management change maximum state to anything lower than 100% (I just have mine at 50% but I dont think it really matters) From what I have read this should stop your CPU from going to TurboBoost GHz meaning you should get lower overall temps unless doing heavy stuff, i.e. your regular browsing and whatnot shouldn't cause fan to go off. Keep in mind if you want to do heavier stuff like game or vid edits I would make a seperate power plan for that and have cpu maximums set at 100% for optimum performance.

    I am now getting consistently about 5-10C less heat and the fan goes off much less frequently now. I am guessing that 55C is the sweet spot for fans to start kicking in. Before doing this I was seeing temps of ~54-60 with laptop on desk, now I am getting around 50 average with it on my lap!

    My thoughts: From what I saw in CPU monitor spikes is that TurboBoost went off too frequently while doing small stuff thus causing overall temp increase. Limiting CPU threshold seems to prevent this and give overall lower temp, meaning sub 55C temps and no need for increased fan speed. Hopefully they update BIOS or something for this soon.

    But for now I hope this works for you as well as it did for me.

    Very nice, I wasn't very bothered by this unless I was in class but I will definitely add another profile to change this. Thanks 1upac.

    hello,
    i just purchased a brand new CT15-A1 off amazon....as soon as i get it out of the box and power it up I notice that it seems to make a fair amount of noise in frequent intervals with almost no load on the computer(maybe a chrome tab or two open, youtube video etc...)....i hear what sounds like the fans or something engaging every 30seconds-few minutes and i cant figure out why it needs them or if its normal for these ultrabooks....

    its not very loud or anything but it is a bit annoying and like i said it doesnt make sense because i'm not doing anything CPU intensive....

    Ok, this fan issue seems to be a problem with these computers and the power management fix that 1upac
    listed, does not work and he even returned his computer because of multiple issues. Vizio does not and will not acknowledge this problem so all owners that can't return theirs are screwed unless they make a fix threw a bios update. Also they need to add some kinda of organization to there driver page with release dates to when the drivers came out, so we know what to update.

    Aesthetic wise this computer is beautiful, but with the fan issue, missed keys when pressed (it looks like a 2nd graders work if not edited), bad track pad, speakers that sound like there coming out of a tin can, they screwed the pooch and made us the guinea pigs on these. It took me about 25 minutes to figure out I had all these problems, and the company can't figure this stuff out before they release them.
