Walmart has the 14" in stock for under $900. Keyboard is too shallow, action is stilted. Touchpad is glitchy and unresponsive. I like the rest of the notebook. I particularly like the rubberized bottom.

can you be more specific about the areas in bold? i'm potentially interested in the vizio's but have been hearing mixed reviews, thanks.

sure. The Vizio keyboard has very wide keys but they are very shallow. The keys have a very short throw and very little action. You don't get a decent feedback for serious typing. All I can say about the touchpad is that the pointer did not smoothly follow my gestures on the pad, jumping around instead. It reminded me of an Asus that I sent back to Amazon last year.

The keys do have shallow travel, thats kind of a hallmark of the ultrabook line though. There isn't alot of thickness to them so the keys have less travel. I haven't had any problem with it though and I type about 80-90wpm. I like the wide keys better than the island. Its easier to hit the keys. I do wish the keyboard was backlit though.

The trackpad is a fairly easy fix. Out of the box mine worked fine, then I did all the windows updates and it started jumping around like an asus, which isn't surprising since the trackpad is from the same maker as the one in the zenbooks. There is a solution though, go to vizio.com / support /downloads and there is an updated trackpad driver. Fixes things right up.

You might want to check walmart.com they have them on a rollback for alot cheaper than the stores are selling them as of 8/21.

saw the ct15-a2 today at costco, here are my impressions..

    - awesome screen
    - nice minimal design & build quality
    - very fast boot-up
    - keyboard not to my liking: the width of the keys is the biggest issue, the minimal travel isn't a big deal
    - trackpad was decent. this unit had the old driver though so perhaps the new one would help?
    - bottom ran moderately warm without even being able to web surf, stream video, or run numerous applications
    - chassis edges are not 'sharp' at all as some have written about, no concern here

overall, i give vizio a B/B- on this first generation unit. improvements needed:

    - keyboard: narrow keys and add backlight
    - trackpad: get rid of sentellic and improve response time (sometimes got sticky)
    - screen: make 14" matte instead of glossy. i haven't seen the 14" in person, but the 15" matte version is the right way to go.
