    Hi all,

I've got a problem with my HEL80, and I'm hoping you can help.

    WHAT I DID:

I was having trouble playing DX9 games, and I found this thread by "alphagamma":
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=84039

So, I went down the list and installed all the new drivers (BIOS included.) My DX9 games started working wonderfully, and all was well with the world, until:

    THE PROBLEM

I can't turn on my bluetooth - the WSS no longer works. FN-F2 is non-functional, and the WSS doesn't even know what is turned off/on (it says both BT and wireless are off, but I'm posting this over a wireless connection.)

Is there any way to manually turn on the BT radio? I don't really care about the WSS (it would be nice if it worked, but not critical) but I DO want to use BT.

    Thanks,

    K

To double-post myself, I've found another problem:

With the above mentioned drivers, my HEL80 now overheats when playin 3D-games; I've actually had it spontaneously turn itself off twice now. Not good, needless to say, especially since the fan wasn't on 'high' (judging by noise) when it happened.

Given that no one seems to know the answer to my previous question, let me rephrase:

I think the problem is probably BIOS-related (could be wrong, but I would guess BT and fan/overheating issues would stem from the BIOS.) Can anyone tell me the most recent BIOS that they've succesfully ran with both the WSS/BT working and no overheating issues?

(I've got a T2500 w/ 2GB, and am (obviously?) running on XP, if that helps any)

    Thanks again,

    K

How long do you have to talk to yourself before you're certifiable?

Anyways, in the interests of informing anyone else who might have this problem, let me explain how I 'solved' it.

I installed a 'lite' copy of XP on a seperate partition, then installed the WSS in that partition to turn the BT radio on. Not the most elegant solution, but I now have BT again.

The 'fix' for the overheating was simple; without an external BT dongle attached to the USB port next to the fan exhaust, my lappy no longer overheats. Strange, but lesson learned: use the USB ports on the right side of the lappy next time.

Case (mostly) closed. Maybe this will be helpful to somebody else...
