Hi, everyone, been lurking here for a few weeks and this is my first post. First, just want to thank everyone here, especially E-wrecked and mhooper for all the info they provided on their experiences with the OCZ whitebook.

I am sold on the OCZ but what's killing me is deciding if I should get one now or humor the rumor of the 4870 and wait until that card is released for this laptop? The last thing I want is buyer's remorse if I get it in a couple of weeks and then the 4870's come out for Christmas.

Need some advice from some folks. Is the 4870 release a bunch of wishful thinking, or will it probably be out in Q2/Q3 of '09?

    Many thanks.

You may be able to fit the 4870 in your existing OCZ without motherboard mods.

No guarantee certainly, but you could certainly check with possible retailers if they have a buyback/trade in program for old parts. This would save you some money should you decide to upgrade to the 4XXX series.

Don't see whats the fuss over these new cards. 3870X2 is already powerful enough, what more could you want?
Also, you have no idea of power specifications of the 4870. It might be as or even more heat-consuming than the 9800M GTX, which only the 2.3in beast np9262 could manage to contain in SLI.

If you can wait you might as well since technology keeps moving and you dont need it right away dont buy it. Buy notebooks when you need em.

I would look at that thread with all the vendors and see who can give you the best price including shipping/warranty etc. People are posting their opinions but its your choice on which you feel offers you the best pricing/service/etc.

Killer Notebooks sells modified ones from what I understand and they cost more than at other resellers. I just ordered mine from XoticPC and they have GREAT customer service and a 3 year warranty is included in the price. E-Wrecked also ordered his from XoticPC and if you look around the OCZ section here, you should see what he has been able to do with his. But there are many people that sell them. Just have to ask around for reputation and price. I chose xoticpc because they are cheaper than killer notebooks and have a great reputation for customer service.

I just got done configuring 2 computers one from KN the other one from Xotic.

I did the q9100 from Xotic and the q9200 (which can acutally OC) from KN

(Q9100 is 2.26 Quad the Q9200 come overclocked form KN to 2.93 and can be changed in the BIOS fro 2.3 to 2.93)

    3394 from KN
    3350 From Xotic
4 Gigs of ram - The KN is 1333 the Xotic is 1066
All the other stuff like OS etc is the same.

So I dont understand the way cheaper unless you are ordering the Barebone which Mark doesnt sell.

Not only that when you are ordering a $3000+ computer you are most likely going to be purchaisng for a gaming application. If you are doing that you are going to want drivers that are optimized for playing games. To date there are 3 different driver version to date that is in the last month alone. They are infinitley better than the OCZ ones.

Drivers, which I may add, I have seen several post in regards to after purchasing alot of these systems several members have claimed blank driver disk.

Also Luthi3n werent you saying earlier, while they may have great customer service, that they did not have the x9100 that you ordered. and had no idea on timefram. I hope im not confusing you with someone else, but I do recall that.

KN does have the x9100 in stock.

This is in no way hindering form ordering form who you choose. Just a general observation. and clarifying this misgeneralization that Xotic is so much cheaper. Because if you configure the systems the same they are the same price.

Oh almost forgot lets not forget the KN core optimization program, heat mods/ cooling modifcations, and soon to come boost button. As well as what I considered the strongest and msot knowlidgeable user base to help push the cutting edge.

    Do your due dilligence.

Hmm. I've done this configuration from 3 sites, K|N Rk and Xotic.

lowest price is RK 3090 Xotic 3132 and K|N 3379

you say Xotic 3350 I think that is configure with qx9300

and yeah RK is the best :)

yeah I'm pretty sure and just did when I posted too. I've done all three sites with same configure. RK and Xotic are similar but K|N got higher than both.

Ya, same here. If K|N was cheaper or about equal I would have considered going with them.

No, you are not mistaking me about the x9100. They said they were not sure about the x9100 so I talked with Justin and the problem was resolved in less than 24 hours.

This is starting to turn into a thread that could get nasty very quickly. I just described my experience with xotic and was very pleased with it. K|N, I'm sorry, but his site just didn't do a whole lot to settle my conscience about the company (or is it like a single person or something) and there was also a thread someone started here that prolly ended up getting closed or deleted because it got really nasty. The guy was just giving his experience with Killer I believe and it happened to be negative and people started to flip out. Anyways, this board is filled with lots of information about companies reputations and what not that it should be pretty easy to decide. Xotic had a good reputation so I decided to go with them. Just my 2 cents.
