I felt the same as many of you in that I thought I was getting a great deal on a laptop computer from Averatec. With the 512 MB of RAM and the dual layer DVD burner along with all the other standard options for under $800 after rebates. I couldn't beat the price. Well after two months of owning this computer I had to send it in for warranty service. It was for nothing more than to reformat the hard drive and put it back to factory defaults as their onboard recovery program failed to operate as advertised. This wasn't a big deal until the tech support agent said that I had to pay to ship the computer to them. Now that computer has cost me more than $800 and will continue to climb should any future problems occur that will cause me to have to send it to them for warranty repair. I have owned a multitude of laptops from different companies including Toshiba, HP, and Compaq. Never once did I have to pay for shipping for warranty service. So be careful and read the fine print when you purchase a computer. The deal you get may not be worth it and if anyone knows of any other companies that do this same thing please let me know so I don't waste my time buying their product.

You get what you pay for.

My thoughts exactly. Sorry for your troubles though, I hope things work out in the end for you.

One of the ways they are able to keep the cost down.
