My Zepto died last week, I think it is primarily the GPU that went belly up (showed blocky artifacts, now screen is blank white with a line or artifacts).

When I connect it with a VGA monitor I magane to see the start of the bios and the windows xp logo but that is all, it then goes blank again - at all times with blocky artifacts (even on the bios).

I have had this laptop from March 2007 - I bought it from a seller on AVForums who I believe is Juan Ker from these forums

Anyway, is there any way to get this machine working again? i havent even played any games on it for over a year, I have only been using it for browsing and the odd converting videos to PSP. I dont mind to use it as a desktop and just hook it up to an external monitor. Is there any way to change/remove the graphics card.

I still believe the CPU, to be working fine - as is RAM and HDD and screen. It owuld seme a wast to just chuck it away. How much can I sell it for spares?

Exact same thing happened to me. Send it to Denmark for repairs, but they dont make the parts anymore. I was prommised a totaly new laptop, so im waiting for the live chat now to arrange it. Your still within your warenty so it should be free of charge.

Is the warranty 1 year or 3 years?

The purchase date on the receipt reads June (or July) 2006, but there were problems with that first machine (the one with a customized cover) Zepto sent a new machine in September (this time no cover) to compensate they said they will send an extra battery (surprise surprise, they didnt - they never managed to get it in stock according to them).

In the first post you said you had it since march 2007, which would be within the warenty i think. But now you say september, which isnt within it. I think it would be best to just contact zepto through the live chat, they are really helpfull.

The warrenty is 2 years, atleast it was for me.

The warranty can have different duration, depending on country and customer preference.

The major manufacturers such as Dell and HP have given a warranty extension in respect of the nVidia GPU. AFAIK, Zepto have not yet done this on the grounds that the GPU failure rate has not been abnormal. However, Zepto may be keeping the statistics favourable by denying claims after the normal warranty period. If enough people contact them, then they may change their position.

Sorry, I should have been more clear in my first post. I bought it second hand in march 07 from Juan Ker/ironduke (in perfect condition from AVForums) He bought it in June/July 06, but that one was replaced by a newer model as the first one developed a fault (september).

I will definantly, call them in the morning. I would expect them to say it is out of warranty and there is nothing they can do about it.

If that is the reply from zepto what can I do with the machine - how much could I sell it for spares, or is it possible to strip it and make a small form desktop as I am sure everything else bar the GPU is good.

What does your consumer legislation say about latent defects? Innumerable nvidia GPUs are inherently at risk of premature death. Read this and the subsequent 2 parts for more details.

If he got a replacement laptop on september of 2006, then no warrenty. If you got the replacement on september 2007, then you do have warrenty. But again, easiest to just call.

I dont think you can make a desktop out of it, since the gpu is integrated in the motherboard. The only thing you can reuse are the hd, dvd-drive, memory. Maybe the speakers, but wont get you much.

I might be interested in buying it from you. How much do you want for it?
