Been noticing that Power Notebooks and Discount Laptops haven't been carrying any 14" notebooks of ANY kind recently. In looking at the Compal FAQ, I see two models that should be available -- the IFT00 and IFT01. I can't find any info on these models. Can anyone help?

    from the FAQ .....

What country are you in? I think the IFT00 is only available with a 8400M and not a 8600M.

    no, its 8600 256mb.

those 14" compals with 8600 are very hot.
    best ones is IFL90

IFL90 has NB8M (GF 8400M 256MB/DDR2 64bit) as standard graphics card or NB8P (GF 8600M GT 256MB 128bit (no mention if DDR2 or DDR3 memory)) as an option.

I would certainly double check with the dealer if it really has GF8600M GT graphics since it marked as an option on compals site, and most dealers go as cheap as possible...

Also if you will take 8600M GT graphics go for the 7200mA (9 cell) battery since the GPU will drain the 6 cell quite fast (under 2 hours).

it seems the 8400GT would be more fitting for the 14" compals. Just a thought, and I doubt it's available as an option. The GS seems just about the 7600 anyway. And seems to be just sort of enough in my taste.

If they only had the WXGA+ matte option for the 14", that'd be great :)

Ahem -- Video card configuration aside ;) , I found the thread re: the IFT00 and IFT01. I still don't know where the models are, but while I'm waiting, does anyone know the difference in weight between the IFT00 and the IFL00? The IFL00 is a deal breaker for me at nearly 7 lbs. I'm hoping that the IFT00 comes in closer to 5 lbs. I'd contact Donald directly (and still may) but I thought y'all might be interested, too.

I have a Ft00, but I live in Spain. It kicks ass even with the 8400 GS, which for my taste it's ok. The MAIN pluses are that it's as quiet as my old dog, you can't hear it... really. And it runs extremely cool for a laptop after many many hours. I can have it in my lap for all day, can't feel a thing. I love it. The touchpad though, it's not to my like...

We sell them as the Zepto Znote 3414W (IFT00) and Zepto Znote 3214W (IFT01).

    And yes the IFT00 has a 8400M GS 256MB

Can you tell me about pricing and availability for both models to US markets? Specifically, what kind of VAT would I have to pay?

    Thanks!

I just ran the numbers .... VAT adds ~$300 - That's a complete disqualification for me.

    Thanks for the reply.
