Please don't direct me to the FAQ. This isn't a question of where can I buy a Compal HEL80 which I am seriously considering at the moment, but rather a survey of where people bought their HEL80s and were satisfied with the service.

I've been looking at powernotebooks.com and I like them but I noticed I can get the same specs at agearnotebooks.com for less, if someone can convince me to buy from powernotebooks instead based on something I don't know, I'd be grateful.

I can't say anything about agearnotebooks.com, but I got mine from powernotebooks.com, and I was pleased with the service and support. I don't regret my purchase at all.

thanks, I hear a lot of good things about them. One thing I forgot to mention is to ask if there are any Compal dealers that have payment plans, if I'm not able to pay it with my credit card I may have to go that route.

Please excuse me for tooting our own horn, but if you compare our warranty with theirs, and you compare our ratings at http://www.resellerratings.com/seller_info.pl?seller_id=1980 with theirs, you may see why we might be just a little more money.

Also, give us both a call with any questions you might have. That may help with your decision as well.

When you call PowerNotebooks.com...ask for me!

I can't speak for others, but my Compal HEL80 (PowerPro L 8:15) from PowerNotebooks.com is a great machine. You can use a credit card to order from them. Their website is a fantastic source of info, and either Donald or Ron will give you great service. I also want to give their tech support a Grade A+. I have contacted them by phone several times, and never have I had to wait more than 15 seconds for a tech, and all questions or problems have been resolved in just a few minutes. Try that with Dell or any of the other big names! You might find a vendor with slightly lower prices, but if you compare the same configuration you won't be disappointed with PN.

I ordered the WSXGA+ matte screen, as I do not care for the reflections present in the glossy screens. I was concerned about this, as I knew that print was going to be smaller on this screen than on my 17" 1280x1024 desktop. That it is, but it is so sharp that the size doesn't matter.

As far as the features are concerned, I haven't activated my fingerprint scanner yet. The various comments on the forums, my likelyhood of getting scratched fingertips from construction projects, and my low incidence of taking my laptop anywhere that security is an issue are the reasons why.
TPM is another function that I'm leaving alone for now.

I'm having most fun with the network card. The 3945 card has a better signal to my network than any of the other ways I connect. It's a joy to use.

    Hope this helps!

I purchased my Hel80 from Powernotebooks.com through Donald as well. Before my purchase, I found that there were other places that I could purchase the notebook for a slightly cheaper price but I'm the type of person that likes to know that their product will be perfect right out of the box. One cannot ignore Powernotebooks.com's 9.99 lifetime rating. To add to that, I am one extremely satisfied customer who thinks that the slight extra amount was well worth the their knowledge and lifetime technical support that is there to help you regardless of whether or not your warranty expires.

Sometimes you have to spend a little more to get more out of a purchase.

I think the warranty actually adds value to the purchase.. if you get the PowerPro version.

I ordered the PowerPro model of this lappy... there was a minor screen issue early on, and Powernotebooks took very good care of me, in a way I'm sure someplace like Dell wouldn't. I was just slightly shocked at the time, actually ;)

So now I'm recommending powernotebooks to anyone I know who is in the market for a laptop.

wow, this company has the best reputation and feedback I've ever encountered. I looked up the rating and got through 5 pages of comments all ranked as "Very Satisfied" before I stopped looking. I really like what I've seen of the site, and I agree that good customer service/build quality/tech support is invaluable. I will definitely buy there, it's just a question of getting a credit card so it's possible.

I can't say anything about the agearnotebooks but powernotebooks has won me over as a customer with my experiences so far. The personalized service and support is rare these days. It's also hard to look past the PowerPro warranty that comes standard on laptops under that label.

Definitely call them before placing your order as they may be able to give you some promotions that aren't available online.

I could wait a few months and have the money saved up, but I also need the computer for work and lately my computer has been running so slow and hurting productivity that I want it sooner rather than later. So I had the idea to buy on credit which I've only done a couple other times, and then pay that off in a couple months instead. I definitely want to buy from powernotebooks, because i think they would give me a security that I frankly can't get from the brand name vendors. it will be worth the wait.

I also purchased a HEL80 from powernotebooks.com and was VERY satisfied with the service. From sales to tech support they are a top notch company in my book. I was so pleased that in the future I am switching to all powernotebooks.com laptops when buying for employees in my company. The only other company ive had dealings with who also sells Hel80 laptops is ibuypower.com. As with many others on this forum I will say to steer away from them. I won't go into why, but there are plenty of reasons presented in various places upon this forum. Powernotebooks.com is the best way to go I believe. If you purchase the powerpro model, the difference in price with the other companies will be well worth the extra $$.

Why would we match their prices?

When they match our service and warranty, we'll match their prices.

Good points all. Side question: One of my work mates suggests a 1 year warranty is sufficient provided their is on-site support. I tend to favor a 2 year warrantly. Does Powernotebooks offer anything that is a compromise of these two?

Many of their laptops are offered under both PowerPro and Crown labels.

The PowerPro has the automatic 3-year next-business-day shipping covered both way warranty. If you want different options such as on-site service and accidental damage protection for 1-2-3 years, then go with their Crown versions.

I am another very satisfied Powernotebooks customer. Why not give them a call? They are such nice people, and no one will pressure you to buy before you are absolutely ready.
