Do you necessarily have to get an Averatec? Why don't you consider some other brands? What is your budget by the way? Could you please fill out the "what notebook I should buy" FAQ? You can find it here,

I don't mean to bash on Averatec or any people that own their notebooks, but I'm personally pretty leery of their computers and try to avoid them. I've heard far too many horror stories from owners about how low the quality on them are. But I have heard positive stories from happy customers too, but I've just heard an overwhelming majority of negative reviews about their machines.

If I was going to buy an Averatec, I'd personally do it only from Costco or Sams Club, which offer a 6 month return policy on computers.
The 3700 series looks nice but I personally just don't like that it has a 4:3 standard screen. Have you looked at the 4200 or 4100 series? That comes with a widescreen which is good for dvd movie watching, I liked that model when I saw it at my Costco.

For a basic model, I like the Compaq v2000z. The Semprons offer good perfromance at a low price.

Proceed with caution. Averatec repair is a lengthy process. Turnaround time on an RMA is three to four weeks. The unit may be returned with the issue unresolved requiring another RMA and another month.

I would NOT purchase this brand except as a secondary unit, and only after considering all other options.

I am one of the users who has had problems out of the box. It is a frustrating experience.

Users who get stable units seem quite happy with them. It is basically luck of the draw with Averatec.

The one bright spot is the courtesy and helpfulness of the phone support team. Often you may need to call back several hours later, not enough phone reps tp handle incomming calls.

When you get thru the reps are very helpful.

They did everything possible and them some to help me get a resolution to hardware issues.

    Good luck with your purchase.

People who have problems tend to post more than people who are satisfied. I have the 3270 and I love it so far. However after reading the unoficial averatec support forum and seeing the large number of problems reported I would not have bought one if I knew of that forum before my purchase. But as I said I love mine so far after a month it works perfectly although I must admit I keep waiting for something to go wrong after reading the forums.

I have had my Averatec 6210 since last August. For the price, I am totally satisfied with it. It has met expectations and I have not had any issues with it. I love the stand alone DVD player; I have used it many times on flights. This is not a good machine if you need to carry it around all the time, but for occasional travel, I love it. The wireless is great and I have no problems connecting to my router. The CD burner is a bit slow, but I have a high-end desktop for the hardcore stuff.

All in all, do I love my Averatec? You bet. Will my next laptop be an Averatec? Probably not; too many questions lately about reliability and manufacturing.
