I have an 6224 with 1 gb of DDR2 PC5300 - 667MHZ ram. I wanna expend that for several reasons (windows vista.. games etc).
Iwe read something about turbo memory supported on the laptop.. and wondering if i should look into turbo memory or a normal ram upgrade.
Is there difference on the ram blocks normally used and the ones my laptop needs? Should i buy faster ram than 5300 or would it scale down anyway?
Thanks =)

Just get normal PC5400 / PC5400 DDR2 200-pin SODIMM. The PC6400 RAM will clock down to run at the same speed and would only be worth getting if you can find some which is genuine CL=4 at 667MHz.
Turbo memory is another upgrade option which is more difficult (you need to load the AHCI driver and take out the keyboard).
I would start with swapping one existing module for a 2GB unit.

If you have 667 already I would recommend sticking to 667. The laptop will downclock to the slowest speed anyway.
Also, remember what you have already. If you have 1x1GB stick then all you need to do is buy another 1GB stick if you want 2GB RAM. If you have 2x512MB then you need 2x1GB sticks. -
ok.. so a sodimm 200 for my notebook pc 53-5400.
What about getting a 2gb stick ? (i have a 1 x 1gb stick in it atm).
Would XP work with 3 gb? (im using vista atm.. but might load both systems)
Thanks for the fine answers -

I used to recommend this 2GB Transcend module, but the price has crept up recently (but still a lot less than I paid).

I just bought a Transcend 2GB while in Taiwan this week. 6625WD booted just fine, showing the total 4GB on my vista64 business. Tried the vista memory diagnosis tool while i was in the shop, just to check it, since had to fly out the same day. No problems.
later, tried to play a commercial DVD. BLUE SCREEN
all attempts to reboot failed, with blue screen (in safe mode etc), until I removed the stick.
original memory is the Kingston 2GB single stick.
any thoughts? I can't simply return the stick, since am now back in the UK

I'm using the Transcend 2GB (I have two in different notebooks) without any problems.
You can run MemTest. I think it is on the Zepto FTP site (and at plenty of other places). You need to make a bootable CD and run it from there.
I once had a module die on me during a flight. The computer worked fine in the departure lounge and then BSOD'd when I tried to start it on arrival. I traced it to one of the RAM modules. Zapped by cosmic rays or electronic weapons?
Once you are satisfied that the module has gone bad then you could contact Transcend Europe.

thanks for that info, John. Will try the memtest if the laptop allows me to boot with the new stick plugged in
Which memory for 6224?
